I feel that she is largely part Maine Coon. Only reason I say she is not 100% is because my daughter found her and a sibling with the mother as strays.

She is bossy with telling us when to feed her and let her out. She purrs loud when she is happy (either eating or relaxing).

She's not afraid of our dog; even as a kitten she wasn't afraid. She is very smart and dog like. I whistle for her to come in at night.

Her fur length and thickness is typical, her body is long and thick. She has a mane. Her tail is typical.

She is house trained but will use a littler box when she has to. She leaves dead gifts at least once a month.

Patti

Please excuse my Christmas pjs

Please excuse my Christmas pjs

Is my girl a Maine Coon mix?

Hello, this is Patti. I got her from a Sanctuary at 6 months old. She'd been found wandering the streets and there didn't appear to be anyone looking for her.

She was very thin when I got her but she has filled out very quickly.

Patti is 9 months old now, she has a little ruffle around her neck, however it's hard to see it in photos, as close up you can see the definitive line between the ruffle and the rest of her coat. I wonder if this ruffle will get fluffier as she gets older?

Patti is such a lovely friendly girl and will greet anyone who comes to the house, although she will sulk sometimes if she feels someone has stolen my attention to long!

She loves to play and catch prey (not live animals) but then she just licks them.

Everyone comments on Patti's lovely long tail and when she went to the cattery when I was away for the night they nicknamed her 'little foxy'.

She also makes some very odd noises, sometimes I think she sounds a bit like a pigeon. I've realized she doesn't often actually 'meow' she tries to communicate with other noises.

There is also her long body shape as well that has made me question whether she is part Maine Coon.

She has such a funny character, she's very intelligent but also can be clumsy and silly. The other day she ran to jump on her 'prey' and misjudged how wide the door was open and ran into the door, but she then proceeded to go around the room and hit all the other wooden objects!

She also has little tufts of fur in her ears which I read is a trait.

Sometimes I look at her and think she has a Maine Coon look about her, and other times I don't see it!

I'd be interested to see what other people think.
Thanks

Sara

by Nadia
(Romania)

We rescued Sara when she was about 4-5 weeks old, walking on her own in a busy intersection, so we have no way of knowing her parentage.

At that age, she looked like a typical tabby kitten with short-medium hair. We would have never guessed she’d grow up into anything else.

Soon after adopting her she started developing into an unusually looking cat for these parts. There are mainly shorthair domestic cats in Romania, and Maine Coons are very expensive, so it’s unlikely for a Maine Coon kitten to be abandoned.

She weighed 640 grams the day we got her and kept growing at a very fast pace, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down now.

She's a bit over 5 months old in the pictures here, and already weighs about 3 kilos (6.6 pounds). She’s not overweight, but seems to be getting quite stocky.

In one of the pictures Sara is cuddling with Cali, a fully grown Norwegian forest cat mix (3 years old, 4.1 kilos), and Sara already looks larger than Cali. She is longer actually, but still has shorter legs.

She has a huge appetite and absolutely loves meat (I give her cooked chicken breast, beef, lamb, and very rarely some tuna). Otherwise, she eats Royal Canin kitten kibble.

She has fine, medium to long-ish fur, a bit silkier than a Norwegian forest cat’s, but not as cotton candy like. Also her fur seems to stick closer to her body than Cali’s.

She’s got quite large and goofy looking paws with hair tufts sticking out and she recently started developing a nice ruff around her neck, and a pair of very fluffy pants.

Her tail is the longest of everyone in my cat family (which includes one domestic shorthair – Zelda, Cali the half Norwegian/ half DSH, and Sara here). It’s about 28 cm long – that’s about 11 inches. Also her tail is the fluffiest and she holds it up very proudly – she’s funny, her tail is way taller than her legs.

It’s also different than my Norwegian’s (Cali) – it looks more like a feather duster than Cali’s.
I have 2 other grown cats and they both have shorter tails than Sara.

Also, Sara is the most talkative (she chirps in the sweetest little voice), puppy-like cat I ever known. She greets me when I get home and demands cuddles. She’s curious and not at all shy, she’s the only one who sticks around when we have guests.

Also, she adores water, drinking from faucets, lounging in wet sinks and in the tub. She once jumped in the shower while it was in use and played with the water for a bit. She plays with water while I do the dishes and sticks her head under the faucet. She doesn’t seem concerned with getting wet, and her fur seems to repel the water, it simply flows down her.

Do you think she could be partly Maine Coon (it would be very, very strange – as they’re not commonly found roaming about here – and they’re such expensive cats, actually)? Thank you!!!

Jerry The Maine Coon??

by Wilma Snider
(Amherstview, Ontario, Canada)

Found him on a very could day just sitting and crying. So we picked him up and took him home. He seemed to approve of his new home right away.

We left him in my room for a couple of days as we have 2 other older cats. He seemed to fit in right away and not interested in going outside at all.

Posted on facebook and kijiji, but no response and vet found no chip. Is he a Maine Coon? We'll soon find out as he ages. But what do you think?

Misty

We’re due to adopt this little guy (male, 15 weeks) very soon.

We noticed him in a local ad and went to visit him – the current owner told us that he’s half Maine-coon but with no papers or proof to back it up. So, he could just be a fluffy cat?

From the time we’ve spent with him so far, his tail is up and he seems happy, friendly and confident (after a very short period of being shy). He’s gentle when playing - won't scratch or bite you – and is quite inquisitive.

He doesn't seem overly energetic when compared to other kittens I’ve met, but certainly wanted to play all the time. This is all slightly anecdotal behaviour as we’ve only spent a little time with him but hopefully the pictures will help more.

They show he certainly has the fluffy aspect, with the slight lynx ears, but the fur isn’t especially thick – more soft and silky, and his paws don’t seem over-sized either.

My foot is next to him in a couple of photos (I wear a size 10UK/9US) so you can see how big he is at this age – is he large for a kitten of this age, or just about right for a ‘normal’ cat?

We will love him anyway, but I would really appreciate any advice and feedback.

New Girl

Long hair mix... I’m thinking Maine Coon?

I adopted a cat today and they said she was a long hair mix.

When I first saw her, I thought she was a Maine Coon and from looking at pictures online for long hair Maine coon mix it was an exact match but I’m still unsure.

She has the pointy ears, the face and bushy tail and paws. Anyone have any guesses?
Thanks in advance :)

I think he may be a mix. What do you think? He's so lovable and weighs 15lbs. He has a long tail that is fluffy and beautiful. His mane is longer now. The vet says he's about 2 years old.
