About This Site

black maine coon laying with fluffy belly up.

Hi, my name is Carrie. I live in Maine, USA (yes, I'm a native Mainer!) with my husband and kids.

Our Maine Coons, Alice and Leo, joined our family as small kittens in the spring of 2004.

Why Maine Coon Cat Nation is Your Go-To Authority

Maine Coon Cat Nation has been a trusted resource for Maine Coon enthusiasts since 2010. Over the years, we've grown into a community of passionate cat owners, breeders, and prospective cat parents, all sharing one love: the Maine Coon breed.

We’re proud to have been recognized and referenced by leading publications such as Parade Pets, MSN, Bustle, and WikiHow.

Maine Coon Cat Nation has worked hard to build a reputation as one of the most trusted, long-standing sources of expert advice and community-driven content about this incredible breed.

MCCN is run by me, Carrie Profenno - lifelong cat lover, dedicated Maine Coon owner, and the one behind the scenes creating and curating content for this growing community.

While I'm a bit on the private side (and you won't find a big personal story here), my heart is fully invested in building a resource that reflects the joy, challenges, and unique experience of life with this amazing breed.

With more than 250 articles published and thousands of user-submitted stories, photos, and success tales, we’ve built more than just a website - we’ve built a community.

Through partnerships with breeders, Maine Coon associations, and countless Maine Coon lovers, we continue to provide the most trusted, educational, and community-driven content, all centered around this incredible breed we can’t stop talking about.

Every page you visit on MCCN is built with care, shaped by experience, and often supported by our readers - through stories, quotes, and photos that reflect the everyday joy (and chaos) of life with a Maine Coon.

Whether you're here for expert advice, to smile, or see if your cat is "part Coonie," you’re in the right place. I'm glad you found us.

🌱 How This Site Got Started

Maine Coon Cat Nation began as a side project over a decade ago when I realized how hard it was to find real, grounded information about this breed.

It grew slowly - one article, one gallery, one question at a time - and evolved into what it is today: a trusted home for cat lovers.

Over the last 15 years, we've reached a community of countless passionate Maine Coon owners, breeders, and cat lovers.

Thanks to this, we've built a library of thousands of user-submitted stories, photos, questions, discussions and success stories from across the globe.

What Others Are Saying About MCCN:

📚 What You'll Find Here

From behavior quirks and coat colors to breeder directories and scam prevention, the site covers everything I wish I'd known sooner - and everything readers have asked over the years.

You'll also find themed photo galleries, rescue stories, and owner-submitted spotlights throughout.

Also, by working directly with breeders like Maine Street Cats in California, Yellowstonecoon Cattery in Pennsylvania and rescues like Merlin's Hope in Texas (just to name a few!) we've become a hub for finding your new Maine Coon. These relationships are so valuable!

🧶 The Role of the Community

So many of the pages here are enhanced by stories, blurbs, or pictures shared by readers over the years. These aren't testimonials - they're glimpses into real-life with a Coonie.

Whether it's a shy kitten from a rescue or a 22-pound lap cat, their stories add a kind of depth no article can.

🛠 What I'm Working On Now

In 2025, the site is in a new phase: organizing years of content into more helpful themes, adding real-world examples to our most-read guides, and reshaping our photo archive into something searchable and useful. It's still the same mission - just with a stronger focus and structure.

🔍 Is This Site Just for Maine Coon Owners?

Not at all! While Maine Coons are the focus, a lot of the info here is helpful for owners of large, long-haired, or just quirky cats in general.

Many readers have mixed-breed cats who might be part Maine Coon - and that curiosity is often what brings them here.

💬 Why It's Written This Way

You’ll notice a certain tone throughout - casual, friendly, sometimes even a little chatty. That’s on purpose.

I believe cat care doesn't have to sound clinical, and good info doesn't need to sound like a textbook. We're here to learn, but we're also here to enjoy it!

🌐 Who This Site Is For

If you love Maine Coons, are considering adopting one, already share your home with one, or just enjoy reading about them - this site is for you.

Whether you're seeking advice, confirmation, or simply reassurance that your cat isn't the only one who chirps in the bathtub - you're in the right place.

💡 Support and Membership

The site is entirely reader-supported. Become part of our exclusive community with a membership to our Coonie Clan! Get access to an archive of photo collections, our private chat area, and special content for those who want to dig deeper - all while supporting MCCN.

It's a lovely, quiet community - no fluff, no pressure, just more of what you already enjoy.
