Jack

My cat Jack is 3 years old and I bought him and his sister, Martha from a private seller.

They were from the same litter but are striking different in appearance, hard to even believe they are related ;)

Martha is a short-haired Tortoiseshell, very dainty in appearance and very sweet. Both these cats are like no other cats we have had, their temperaments are that of a dog - more so Jack!

The way Jack lies and they way he is so vocal and they way he waits by the back-door to be let out for a wee, even though now we have a cat-flap fitted.

His appearance - when comparing him to Maine Coon photos - is strikingly like that of a Maine Coon.

Jack is very sociable and likes to be with us all the time, and cries if he cannot get in to a room where we are, and he will scratch at the door no end.

When Jack looks at us, while we are speaking to him his eyes are wide and totally focused us on as if he is really listening to what we are saying and he will blink at us and talk aback - in cat-language ;)

He really is so different to any other cat we have ever had and his fur is thick and uneven (as I read Maine Coons have) his feet are huge and tufty with fluff between the toes and he has the hair on his ears that stick up. His tummy fur is baby-soft and he loves to lay on his back for tummy-rubs!

He has an almighty white beard too which he is most proud of :) His tail, perhaps the best feature of all, is like that of a raccoon's, huge and about 4" thick!

Your Jack looks a lot like my Max (2 years old). He also has tuxedo markings and huge white feet. At age 2 he is already 17 pounds and still growing. His sister Lily is only 11 1/2 pounds with tabby markings.

I just wonder if eh may be a Main Coon mix how this happened I wouldn't know! Please advise I would be extremely grateful! :) He was the only one in the litter with this appearance.

Maine coon, Part Maine Coons

Cats can have kittens from more than one male in the same litter. It could be that he is the only one in the litter from that mate. He sounds like he could very well be part Maine Coon.

If his tummy very fluffy and soft? Is his fur all very soft? Does he like to lie on his back (the "belly shot")?

Does he have large tufts of fur on the bottom of his feet? I saw a picture of Lynx tracks where you could see the mark of the tufts in the footprint.

I have a tabby that I believe to be part Maine Coon. I am 72 years old and have never had a cat remotely like him. He is very loving, and likes to be around his people.

I hope you enjoy your special cat as much as I do.

Hello dear Merle! Thank you for your comments. Yes Jack does have an extremely baby-soft tummy and has always loved to lie on his back for the tummy-rub!!!!!!!

He does have tufts of fur between his toes and he is more like a dog than a cat! I wonder if I could take him somewhere for an expert to have a look at, but I wouldn't know where to start!

Cats do not have to look their breed or their parents. If you cloned a cat you would not get a color duplicate. The genes go back to wherever they want to.

He's lovely, definitely lots of coon in that boy.
