August 2014 Featured Coonies

Meet our Featured Coonies for August 2014!

By: Steve & Lori in Billings, MT, USA

Chloe Chloe Chloe

Chloe is our first cat. We've had 3 big dogs over the past 20 years. No pets for the past 2 years. Chloe came home on July 19th.

It feels so good to have another member in the family again. She likes to follow us from room to room and be a part of whatever we are doing ... including sending email.

It is fun to watch her inquisitive mind as she figures out what next to check out. In just a month's time, she has definitely found a place in our hearts. We sure think she's pretty cute!!

Two new members of the family :-)

Spooky and BuBu

Spooky & BuBu (Blue) were born on 11 MAY 2014 and are from the great breeders at CoonPlay Maine Coons in the Denver, Colorado Area.

They are both vibrant healthy kitties and are adjusting very well to their new home. :-)

Jasmine AKA Fuzz

By: Jenn in Nixa, MO

Nov. 2013 when she came to live with us

Jasmine Jasmine Jasmine Jasmine

Jasmine is approximately a year and a half old according to the vet. She was pregnant rescued from the side of the road.

The family that had her found out that their son was allergic to her so she came to my house and has been part of the family ever since.

She likes to be near water but not in it, she'll lay on the side of the tub while someone is in the bath and keep an eye on us.

She has a large vocabulary and talks to me for a while when I get home from work.

Garvy @ 8 months

Garvy Garvy

Garvy was 8 months old at the time of this picture. It was his first experience up a tree and I think it shows.

He is now a year and 10 months old and almost 23 pounds.

Meet Buster Due Holstebro from DK

By: Malene in Copenhagen

Buster Buster Buster Buster

Buster is 10 years of age :-) He is a big bully with a big heart.

When I got him he was a mess... His fur was one big knot, and his eyes full of puss everyday. So I went to the vet, and paid 1800,00 dollars... I don't mind doing it, I love him.

The vet called and said they had to remove all of his teeth on the right side of the mouth. He was in bad shape, and his eyes was fixed with surgery. Now I have the most happy and playfull cat.

We have a very special bond, and when someone is watching him for me, he is "cryin" the first day, and a little bit the next day. Even when I go to the market for milk, he is cryin.

After Buster lost his teeth, he has a tendency to look like Elvis, his upperlip gets stuck sometimes ^_^ and it puts a smile on my face. Everybody loves him, even people who are not fans of cats loves him, and wants him....

He is still the most playfull cat, and finds new thing to brake or throw on the floor everyday hahaha...

Romeo Is Such A Charmer!!

By: Kelley in Johannesburg, South Africa

Romeo sitting in the garden.

Romeo Romeo Romeo Romeo

Romeo is a beautiful grey Coon! I had got him at just 3 weeks old and raised him.

He likes to play fetch and loves to give my other kitty a hard time! Romeo has great pride in his tail, and if anyone touches his tail, he meows, snatches it from you and starts to groom it!

Romeo is not very vocal at all, and you dont often hear him meow unless he is being cheeky. He would rather suck up to you in the kitchen when he smells meat by rubbing his head against your ankles - He picks the "cute" approach. Needless to say - It works!

I do love him, he is such a character!

By: Dawn in Rochester NY

Peanut Peanut

Peanut was found living in the drainage pipe under the sidewalk of the apartment complex I live at.

When he was found he was just four weeks old; his mother had left him.

I found him and fell in love with him and he has been mine ever since. His birthday is in October where he will be 1 year old.

Sophie Irene

By: Diana in Bucyrus, Ohio
Sophie Irene

We adopted each other about 3 months after my Mother passed 3 years ago....

I had needed someone to care of so I went to the local Human Society and adopted her....

She has been such a joy for me and hopefully for her too...

Zusa from Santa Cruz

By: Irene in Capitola

Zusa is about 12. He's an absolutely sweet and very gentle gentleman.

Mr. Little Man

By: Mike in Fort Worth, Texas, USA
Mr. Little Man
The Guardians of the Backyard Realm

Unique and very proud, regal and delightfully inquisitive yet cautious, Mr. Little Man was born on July 15 2013 and he came home the following month.

Now a year old and tipping the scales at 19lbs, he isn't fully aware of how big he is, although his best buddy and big brother Sebastian the Keeshond is regularly reminded of this fact when they play.

He doesn't realize that he's a cat and not a dog, regularly "fetching" whatever I throw for his dog brother to retrieve and bringing it back to me dropping it at my feet.

The look of bewilderment from the dog is priceless!

Tony only 1 month!

By: Kim in Switzerland

Tony Tony Tony

When James past away in March, I couldn't get to fill in the emptiness he left behind.

When my heart started to fill less pain, only left with happy moments to remember, my partner and I thought that a Maine Coon one day was a Maine Coon for ever!

So we searched for a little miracle and found Tony from a wonderful Cat breeder. He is smoking handsome :). We went to visit him and showed us an overview of the affection we are about to get.

Tony loves laps, cuddles and purrs each time he has attention given! Can't wait to be in September to cuddle him all day!

Welcome in our lives Tony. xxx

By: Cathy Shook in Texas

Hi my name is Sammy. I live with my mom and dad dog parents. My human mommy found me in a parking lot when I was very young - I fit in the palm of her hand.

I am now 2 years and 2 months old - 15 pounds and 38" long tip to tip. The vet was so excited to see me he said he hasn't seen one in this area for a long time.

My favorite game is pretend Tiger - I will crouch down and chase after my human mommy and nip her rear and do the same with my doggy mom.

Mr. Squeaky

Mr. Squeaky Mr. Squeaky Mr. Squeaky

I honestly got him for free!! My family and i believe he is a Blue Maine Coon. Very talkative when playing.

At 10 1/2 weeks old, he weighed in at 3.6 pounds... His first day at home, he hissed and growled at all of us. Day by day I went in and sat with him.

Had a blanket with my dog's scent in his bed with him. After a week in a half, he finally came out and acted like he owned the place. He is an indoor cat, I live in a city area.

Now at a little over 3 months old, he plays with the dog, sleeps with our dog, and even drinks out of the dog's water dish.

Very curious about everything. Makes us laugh at him playing with a simple paper bag. His color amazes us... and he is so soft. Loves to snuggle. But Does not like the window sill... won't venture up there yet to look out the window.

Named him Mr.Squeaky, well because that is what he sounds like he is doing.

Miss Pammy

By: Cheryl Baker in Chico CA, USA
Miss Pammy

My boyfriend and I rescued Miss Pammy from our local cat coalition, she is approx, 1 1/2 to 2 year old female.

A wonderful cat, great with the kids and grand kids, very talkitative.

Runs around the house with a fuzzy little ball, and makes all kinds of weird sounds, also loves to play with her feather stick in the pillows, every morning.

By: Emmett in Galway, Ireland

Bush Bush Bush Bush

Bush arrived at our house randomly on the 1st November 2004. She was named Bush because she arrived on the day that George Bush got re-elected president of the U.S.

She was a fully grown cat at that time. My thoughts are that her original owner must have died before she became part of our family. My parents weren't that keen on taking her in initially as we had never previously owned a pet.

However, they soon realised that she was as pure a pet as they come and she immediately felt part of our family. She was also housetrained by the time she came here. Over the years, she has brought immense joy to our lives. She talks (meows) back if you speak to her.

She wags her tail and approaches you if you call her name and is very playful. She always wants to be up on our knees looking for petting with her two front paws tucked in and opens doors with her paws. She has many lion like features due to her orange and brown based coat.

Many people have commented on what a lovely cat she is. We have her almost ten years now which means that she is likely to be at least 13 years old. She still has a good appetite and we hope that she has still has a good few years left in her.

After having Bush, I could never see myself getting any other breed of cat. It is clear that she is one of those gentle giants!

Squeaker Squeaker Squeaker

My cat lived across the street, she was so tiny. Probably six weeks old.She lived with two puppies that weren't cared for so they came to my house for breakfast and supper.

She decided to tag along and feast at my house. Her former owner would toss her out the door to be all alone with nothing but her fur coat. I have a pet door for my dog and she just came on in and adopted us. We have enjoyed her company for two years now.We just love her.

My new kitten Pookie!

By: Ocea-Marie Hughes in United States

Pooky and his glaring

Pookie Pookie Pookie Pookie

Pooky, originally Kristoff, is a Human Society pet. He was only 2 months old when we adopted him. He is a weird cat though. He sleeps under the blankets like a dog.

His face looks like he wears a mask. He eats a whole lot. You can give him a bowl of food and 10-20 minutes later it's empty! But I love him a lot. Pebbles would love him too.

When Pooky gets mad, his nose turns bright pink. His nose is pink anyways, but when he gets mad it gets bright pink.

Pooky is now 7 months old and getting fat. But he's still as lovable as ever! I really love Pooky.

Funny thing about Pooky:
If you leave a bag of cat food (wet or dry) or cat treats out, he'll chew on the bag to get the food.

Maybe-Maine Coon Cats For August:

By: Darlene Talbot in Winston Salem NC

My son Max adopted Jack at the Humane Society in 2005.

Jack is a beautiful, gentle, loving cat that weighs in at 25 lbs.

Max trained Jack to never cross the threshold into the outdoors and Jack would never think of getting on the counters or tables.

He loves playing with our 10 lb pomeranian and had never hurt her.

Jack traveled from Arizona to North Carolina in the car with Max and did great.

Max just left for college in Minnesota and Jack misses him very much.

Chester 9 weeks old

Chester Chester Chester Chester

I got Chester from a friend of a friend. I just wanted an Orange Male kitten. She showed me a picture of him and I fell in love.

When I first got him he was very affectionate with in minutes. He loves everyone! He was a little puffball with a little puffy tail almost like a raccoon.

From the first day we got him, all he wanted to do was play, be held, and give kisses. He follows me around like a dog. Its like clock work every morning 6:15am he meows at the bed, I move over he jumps and "headbutts" me. I pet him, he kisses my face then I get up.

He follows me into the bathroom, sits on the toilet while I shower and get ready. Then follows me into the kitchen. I prepare his breakfast as well as mine and he eats with me. If I leave the kitchen before he is done, he will stop eating and follow me where ever I go.

We have a full grown (9yr old) cat as well, and he was introduced to her a few weeks after getting him. From the first introduction he was not scared of Beauty, he just wanted to play. She did not...

Now he chases her around and "plays" with her even though all she does is hiss and beat him up.

Once he started getting bigger I noticed Maine Coon type traits in him. His personality for one. His tail just kept getting bigger and puffier. He has ear hair that blows in the wind. His paws are almost half dollar sized and he is only 7 months old and weighs in at just under 9 pounds. He is pure muscle.

I have been tossing around the idea of him being a mix but I know how rare wild Main Coons are.

Maybe Allen is a mix?

By: Tammy in Maryland

I found him in my parents barn at 2 weeks old.

I bottle fed him. He's about 6weeks now.

He plays fetch, doesn't mind water. He's smart, independent, high strung.

Hanson Hanson

We adopted Hanson about 3 weeks ago because we thought he was the most beautiful cat! He has very large paws, and wavy fur on his chest. He also has ear tufts!

As far as personality goes, he has a big one! He loves to play, a lot, and often. He doesn't like being held for long, but does enjoy a good ear scratch and tells us he loves it by very loud purring!

He enjoys being close to us and even tries to sleep with us at night.

After a bit of reading we think he might be a maine coon mix, but wanted more opinions! What do you all think?

Harlow the Blue

By: Laiya in Martensville, SK, Canada

Harlow is a four month kitten we got from the shelter about three months ago.

We have a Maine Coon Ragdoll mix as well (who resembles a Maine Coon but acts like a Ragdoll), and I immediately noticed that Harlow and Micah have some serious similarities in appearance, but Harlow is way more Maine Coon-y in his actions.

He's four months and already almost as big as a normal house cat. He's got the broad muzzle, the intelligent eyes, the long, water resistant fur (and he LOVES baths, he jumps in with me all the time) the giant paws and the fluffy tail.

He's vocal, playful, smart (he plays fetch and knows how to sit and lie down on command) and he just conducts himself in the goofiest and most ridiculous way.

What strikes me most is his colouring, which is white underneath and slowly fades to a fairly solid and shiny blue/silver. I've never seen a cat with his colouring before. It's very odd. He also has dark eyebrows. What do you think?

I think we have a Maine Coon cat but can't be sure so if you can tell me if we have it would be very much appreciated.

She is very affectionate when she wants to be but will tell us when she wants to be left alone by grabbing our arm with her paws and then mouthing us (she can turn within seconds)

I hope you have enough to go on in telling us if we have a Maine Coon or not whether purebred or not. Thank you. Becki Barnett.

Maine Coon Mix or Domestic Long Hair?

By: Miranda in Shiloh, OH, USA

Sissy Sissy Sissy Sissy

Sissy was a very sweet and loving cat.

She wasn't the biggest, average size, but she could make the loudest purring sound when she was happy, which was almost all the time.

Sissy actually came to us as a stray. She had burrs all over her matted fur. She was on the thin side, too. But we made her apart of our family and after a couple weeks, she started to look better and gain some weight.

She was probably around 2 years old when we got her. Sissy was a well mannered cat. She never gave us a reason to yell at or scold her. She was always by my side.

Unfortunately, we had her PTS on March 26, 2014 because she had an incurable illness called Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which of course is a fatal disease that some cats are born with.

Cats that are sick with this can hide any symptoms for months or years after birth until the disease hits crisis mode and the body starts to deteriorate. We had Sissy for 3 years.

Based off of her appearance and sweet natured self, I have always thought she had Maine Coon in her but I recently looked up some domestic longhair pictures and they look like her, too. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Call Me Mambo

By: Ritchie Tumulak in Richmond Hill New York

Im not sure if he is a Coonie but he's got a lot of Coonie personality.

He was rescued at Coney Island boardwalk last March 1st and we believed that time he was 3 months old already.

He is adorable and everyone loves him.

By: Tasha in Missouri

Is my Smokey a Maine Coon mix?

We got him from a man in front of a store with a bunch of kittens in a box, he was the only one that was the 'tabby' color with stripes.

As he got older, he has the traits and characteristics of a Maine Coon and we have always wondered.

Sister Coons - Liz & Luna

By: Ronna Lee in Philadelphia, PA

Liz & Luna

Baby Liz with her blue eyes

Liz & Luna Liz & Luna Liz & Luna Liz & Luna

We adopted these little kitties when they were between 3 and 4 weeks old from a Maine Coon breeder as "accidents". They were much cheaper than the pure bred kittens ! LOL!

The sisters are now almost 5 months old and weigh close to 5 lbs each. They are very loving and cuddly, and are very comfortable around guests. They love to play together and with us.

Liz loves to play fetch, and Luna likes to watch. They both love to watch TV with us, especially hockey. They follow me around like little kids during the day when it's just us girls, and they love to cuddle each other during naptime.

I hope they grow up to be large cats like their mama cat, but I'll love them no matter what!

By: Josh in Glendora CA USA

Adopted him from a shelter and was told he was a 4 year old lynx point Siamese.

He was rather scrawny but after having him almost a year he weighs around 17lbs and is a loveable lap cat that always wants to be touching a human.

What is it about cats in sinks? Perhaps it's the size, the shape, the way they produce fresh water, or maybe it's just because it is so fun for a cat to be right in the way!
