At 8 months old, a Maine Coon kitten might already look full-grown, or still be all legs and fluff.
This is a fun, in-between stage where personalities shine and bodies grow fast.
Many of us end up searching for photos around this age - whether we’re wondering if our own cat might be a mix, comparing growth, or just curious what the next stage of Maine Coon kitten growth looks like.
These real-life stories offer a glimpse into what 8-month-old Maine Coon kittens can be like in all their quirky, lovable stages.
This collection continues to grow as part of our Memory Lane project - check back soon for more stories!

Indi is our eight month old Maine Coon, she has a fiesty girl, keeps our cocker spaniels in their place.
Yet in early hours of the morning shes a cuddly smoochy kitten. She is our first Maine Coon and we love her to bits.

I have two 8-month-old Maine Coon brothers from Telecoons Cattery in Sacramento. One of them, Cowboy, is very independent, while the other, Philya, is incredibly affectionate and thinks I’m his mommy.
He wakes me up with kisses, follows me everywhere, and insists on sitting next to me. Sometimes I wonder if he wants something, but I can't always figure out what! He’ll jump on my chest (he’s 14 lbs!) and wants to be held like a baby, closing his eyes when I sweet-talk him.
If I close the door, he scratches nonstop - though neither of them is very vocal. When they do meow, it’s more like a soft kitten voice.
Philya is playful but not as fond of being held. He loves attention and comes for scratches when he needs it.
Despite their different personalities, both are sweet and love each other. They’re also very picky eaters, especially when it comes to wet food.
They refuse anything that isn’t fish, but I’m working on introducing chicken!
These boys are calm, loving, and have truly made my life richer. I feel incredibly lucky to have them.
Philya & Cowboy are one of many pairs we have in our albums! If you are thinking about getting a pair - see more about life with two Maine Coons here.

Where do I begin. Aslan is growing up quite fast! More to love!
He is 8 1/2 months old now, weighs in at 13.5 lbs, and 40 inches long. And apparently he is still a kitten?
He has suddenly developed a huge amount of energy. He also sleeps like a baby for soooooo long. To the point where I miss his company.
He is a very light red-silver color, so grooming is pretty important, but boy what a handsome fella.

Here are my girls - Celticpride Caoimhe (pronounced Keeva) and KatTails Maya.
Caoimhe is 8 months old today and is already 9.5 lbs. Maya was 5 months old on 7/22 and is 7.2 lbs.
Needless to say they are quite the eating machines! They're both going to be magnificent ladies when they're full grown!
Caoimhe is a black classic tabby and is quite the lady. She's not a lap cat but insists on being right with me talking, supervising and looking for loves and attention almost all the time.
She's a laser light addict and will chase that red dot for hours!
Maya is a brown classic tabby w/white and is a rambunctious, curtain climbing little love bug. She loves sprawling across my lap, chasing the laser light and often her tail, chasing Caoimhe thru their "tunnel" and batting jingly balls, stuffed mice, and other toys around the house.
Both girls sleep snuggled up with me all night and wake me every morning with headbutts and kisses. I'm so very lucky that I get to be their mom and I'm going to enjoy every second of what I hope will be 2 very long lives!
Maya was just 5 months old at the time - see a little peek at her on our 5-Month-Old Kittens Album.

Jenny R: Absolutely gorgeous Coonies!
by: Bruce in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA
Imagine having a twelve-pound furry Maine Coonie ("Beau") at only eight months old who LOVES to walk up your legs and arms with those giant warm paws to give you a kiss and head butt while you're asleep... or trying to fall asleep!
It's a crazy sensation. And just when you're adjusting, his baby sister ("Baby Girl") enters the bedroom with her personal sound machine blaring - a mix of chirps, trills, and meows, before she launches onto the bed to demand a belly scratch, ear smooshes, and then gets REALLY LOUD.
They are forever entertaining... a gift from the Gods!

Woobie's Mommy: The sweet and most beautiful Maine Coons I have ever met!
Boobie: Thank you Woobie's Mommy!

After we lost our cat of nearly 14 years in December 2011, we decided it was time to welcome a Maine Coon into our lives.
It took a few months of searching, but then we found her - an 8-month-old girl at a cat show. We brought her home, gave her a new name (Gypsy Rose), and instantly fell in love.
What a cat! Gypsy is hands-down the most intelligent cat I've ever known. She somehow manages to find her favorite toys even when we've carefully hidden them out of reach - especially her feather stick.
She's always into something, and her expressive little face melts our hearts every time.
She plays hard (especially at 5 a.m.!), loves birdwatching, and runs to the door to greet us when we come home.
No matter how quiet we are, if we sneak into the kitchen for a snack, we’ll turn around to see her right behind us - wide awake and clearly asking, "Where’s mine?"
Yogurt is her favorite treat, and she insists on eating it right from the spoon. She's not a fan of brushing, so I’ve had to get creative - she stands up for a snack while I comb her belly with gloves on!
Gypsy knows she’s a beauty, and I'm so looking forward to retiring soon and spending even more time doting on this special girl.
