I feel so stupid. There were many clues along the way, but I ignored them. I just wanted that kitten so much. They seemed at first to be great people. I told them I didn’t have much money and it would take me a few weeks to be able to pay them and they were fine with that. No wonder they were fine with that! It wasn’t like they were selling me a real kitten.

Anyway, I initially gave them a deposit of $100. I got worried after I paid the deposit and ask them for references. They very willingly gave me two names and contact information. I texted the women and they raved about Melissa Johnson. I should’ve seen that those statements were funny. They were too over-the-top. They were praising Melissa Johnson for being a fine Christian woman. Yuck. What does it matter? If the person you’re buying a cat from is a fine Christian woman?

At this point, I started asking for additional photos of Max (the kitten I was supposedly buying). They came up with one excuse after another. If anyone who is buying a Maine Coon kitten is reading this please please demand additional photos of your kitten. Don’t settle for one studio portrait.

I worked so hard. I begged borrowed and practically stole $300 to give to these terrible people. She actually sent me a text, congratulating me on being the proud owner of a Maine coon kitten.

OK byeafter that, her partner Nicholas, sent me a text saying I needed another $150 for the registration. Registration? Yeah that one came from nowhere it had never been mentioned in any of our previous discussions. But now I have the choice of paying $200 to get registration with breeding rights or $150 to decline the breeding rights. I knew then they were fake. I demanded my money back and they disappeared.

FB Group - Lovely Maine Coon Kittens in Search of Thier Forever Homes - Ethan Cross, Kai Bennett and several others.

Address is an office building in an industrial complex in Irvine, CA. Made a "refundable" deposit of $300 then they wanted an additional $100 for registration. I refused and asked for my money back - no answer and the FB group has disappeared.

I msg'ed several people in the group who had gotten kittens from Ethan and they all said he was legit. Apparently they are all in on it.

All communication was via FB msg and text and was broken English. Payment was through Apple Pay and when I tried to make a request for the $300 back, Apple Pay said the number was no longer valid.

Didn't find any info on them as scammers so posting this.

Make a list of who are from this site. Secondly do not give money up front.

Ask to be able to see the kitten in the current environment. A honest breeder will let you visit. Don't just go by a picture. Most claim to be on a registry so look it up.

I wish you the best of luck. If it sounds to good to be true. It's usually is a scam.

We just lost our sweet Maine coon mix. He was almost 2 and died of unknown causes. Our family is devastated and are looking for a new kitten.

We aren't completely positive how much Maine Coon he had in him, but the more I research the breed, I think he was primarily Maine Coon.

He was a tiny little guy when we got him. He was rescued from a barn just before winter. We aren't looking to show, or to breed. We just want a snuggly, easy-going kitten back in our lives.

I am not sure how to figure out what is a scam and what isn't. If we were promised a kitten and it ended up being a scam, our family would be beyond devastated. Please help.

There are too many scams out there. Tatertot main coons in Minnesota was awesome. I met my kitten and put a deposit down. She will also video chat you if you're unable to meet them. She has a nice contract and a health guarantee. I can't wait to bring my little guy home!

With all the scams, and I almost got caught in a few, I finally acquired an actual real Maine Coon kitten. He is amazing!! Well socialized, healthy, and thriving. The breeder is not on social media anywhere.

You can text her, but she prefers a phone call. A friend purchased a kitten from her and I got her info from there. You meet for real and exchange actual money. If anyone wants her info I will pass it on.

Not sure about this breeder. Kittens are all 11 weeks old and they are asking only $500.00.

My first email I asked where they are located. Of course there was a form I had to fill out stating which kitten I was interested in. They responded to me with info about the kitten.

I sent a second email that before I continue I wanted to know their location because it is not on their website. Being Oakland is in the name I was thinking California or Maine.

Nope they told me they are in Bethany, Oklahoma. I'm not sure about this business so I am going to wait and keep looking. Oh I found this site over a week ago and only one kitten is gone out of I believe seven for sale.

Found this one on instagram initially and then saw a facebook page also under same name.

Initially skeptic bc of the "deal" of a kitten for only $900! She/they claimed they were giving away 3 kittens for a special price bc they realized some couldn’t afford to pay the normal prices cattery charge.

So I contacted asking about this and asked about the location of the cattery- they said West Virginia, when I asked if they had a website- no answer- she changed the subject and asked about my experience with Maine coons.

Asked for my info: name, address, number, email
Asked for a $300 deposit to hold kitten.

And when I asked if I could use bank transfer or similar- she said she preferred Apple Pay or cash app or Zelle - then when I mentioned Zelle she said she preferred Apple Pay.

The fact that she didn’t have a webpage, and all the pics look like they are from over seas(I notice little things like plugs on walls aren’t US plugs outlets) and other things that aren’t common in the US.

When I looked at the owner info on the facebook page- it’s from Cameroon(Africa)!!!!

So I messaged them today and asked why they have a Cameroon facebook page and why they
Don’t have a webpage… and geee... all the sudden no answer!

Be careful for all the scammers- I almost fell for it- but I trusted my gut... and thank god I did!!

Hello everyone. I am an investigator with Operation Predator Shield, an organization based out of South Carolina. We were contacted by an individual regarding a suspicious Maine coon dealer and believes he was scammed of $800.

As the investigation progresses, we have identified at least 2 US based legitimate MC Breeders whos pictures have been copied from Instagram and Facebook posts and used to create a fictitious breeder/seller profile on Facebook. One in Florida and one in Virginia. We have identified the scammers as potentially working out of China.

If you have dealt with a person who goes by the alias, Keith Carvey Lombardi or have any information, please submit any tips. We also ask that you do not engage or communicate any profiles or accounts with this name as we need it to remain active on the platform until law enforcement has concluded the investigation.

This is an on-going active investigation and we will be working with the FBI Internet Crimes (IC3) on this due to the complexity and large scale of this case.

She says she is located in Kileen, Texas

She did not pressure me. She said the kitten was 10 weeks old. She showed me a picture. She asked me if I wanted a male or female, if I was going to use them for breeding, I said no I wanted the kitten fixed.

She said I would have to take care of that with my vet. She said Max was current with his shots and his check up with the vet.

I cannot find anything on her in Kileen Texas or anywhere else. She wants payment by PayPal, venmo, Google pay or cash app.

She refused to give me her cash app until I was ready to pay. She wanted $565.00 with $150.00 up front. She asked for my name, email, address and phone number

Did you speak to the seller on the phone? Most scammers just message.

Ask for videos' and different pictures of the kittens/cats they want to rehome. Ask why the owner is not looking after this.

Check any pictures provided to see if they are original or taken from another site.

What type or payment do they want. Direct deposit etransfer, paypal, gift cards, or crypto should all be a red flag.

I was attempting to purchase Maine Coon Kittens. The seller took money via cashapp and had me send it to various people.

It got to a point that they wanted additional money - $1,500 for a special shipping crate that was not disclosed at the beginning, and at that time I was done since I was very skeptical of how they were doing business.

I had already paid them $3,340 for two kittens and shipping costs.

I asked for a refund and it was not given. Instead I get text message asking me for an additional $555.00 processing fee to process my refund again another fee that was never disclosed at the beginning.

Their whole way of doing business is very sketchy. Melissa Tenant is a scam artist. They operate a Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1352101642032469 and they have a website at https://giantcoonranch.com/

They have a google voice phone number that they never answer you leave a message and then you get either a text message or Facebook Messenger message back.

They also us the BBB logo in an attempt to gain legitimacy for the fraudulent business. Their phone number is an Oregon number but Melissa Tenant supposedly lives in Ladd, Illinois.

Hayley Adams: This person took me for $450. They even sent me a contract and had somebody reach out to me that supposedly got one of her kittens.

When I went to send the rest of the deposit after I got the contract all of a sudden Apple Pay flagged my payment for fraudulent number.

She then began to send me other phone numbers that I could send the money to. I'm still in the process of getting back my 450 through Apple Pay.

I'm in California, so I thought this was in big bear, CA. As I said in my first email to them that I was going to be in big bear next week and wanted to make arrangements to see the cats.

They email me back with no word of appointment but wants info if I will be a good adopter. After I sent that they sent me a email saying I am chosen to have the cat but they are in Oklahoma!!



And it will cost 200 to fly him to me. Of course asking for money up front. I knew right away it was a scam then saw on line about all the Maine coon cat scams!

The difference in the Facebook page is the K in kittens is either capitalized or not. The page is the same and the information is identical.

Adoption process is as follows:
- We do send you all information and picture of kittens here for you to choose.
- We get papers and transfer of ownership documents completed which cost $100. If the papers are completed you'll come pickup the kitten.
- You have two week to stay with the kitten. If the kitten can't adapt or you don't longer like the kitten you'll bring it back and get your refund of $100. If the kitten is a good match after two weeks you pay the rest $150 balance.

After she sent me all this info I asked if I could come by to see the litter because I obviously want to make sure I lot the kittens temperament.

Her response is this:

"No. I have to get papers and transfer of ownership documents completed before your arrival here. You'll be able to take the kitten home same day if you come here. After staying with him for two weeks you'll then pay the rest balance if you get the kitten but if you don't like the kitten you'll bring it back and get your $100 refund."

So then she said she's at work and I would be able to pick up the kitten tomorrow.

I tell her this:

"Ummm that just sounds weird. I just don't feel like I need to pay to meet a cat I don't even know if I'll like. That's weird."

Her response:

"Don't be scared please I'm an honest person I can't hurt you."

I tell her "it's ok, I'm good."

Her response:

"Nah don't be scared"

That is how the conversation went. I couldn't attach screenshot but I have them.

I think the moral to the story is: if it sounds too good to be True, it probably is.

$250 for a purebred Maine Coon is too good to be true.

Wants money up front - only $150 and will not tell you were she’s located so you can meet the kittens.

When I called her out as a scammer she became an irate "I'm a Christian". Quoting bible verses to "prove" she wasn't a scammer.

I will say I was very disappointed to come across the previous comment from April. Carrie Smith and her daughter are very new breeders.

They started breeding late last year, which might be why she seemed a little eager. I'm willing to bet she offered to video chat and had a phone conversation with you as well.

I only know all of this because I brought home a kitten from her winter litter. I highly recommend her. They are trying to do everything right. NOT A SCAM.

This is for "Anonymous" on May 12, 2024.

Yes, we are familiar with Janine Sherman, and her cattery called Majestic Maine Coon. She gave us a Philadelphia address which we found on Google earth. Obviously this was no cattery.

I had seen, on the Majestic Main Coon, an adorable Maine coon who was male and 3 months old. There was a pixelated picture of the cat. I asked for clearer pictures and a video, which Janine kept forgetting to send. Finally, she sent two pictures which both looked altered.

We had just lost our 15 year old, very loved Maine coon cat a few weeks before, and that put us in a vulnerable position. Janine Sherman needed a $200.00 deposit right away and she needed it as a google gift card and I had to send her pictures of the card right away.

Total cost of cat was to be $800.00. Suddenly the cat needed a $150.00 vet check, also to be paid with another google gift card.

Then we owed the balance of the cat and she wanted $600.00 dollars more. We weren’t able to go to Philadelphia to pick up the cat, so Janine was going to deliver him.

Suddenly she couldn’t so we needed to pay her $600.00 more for some shipper to drive this poor little guy to our house! I said "no $600.00 more for shipping the cat, and send my money back" (this was when I was hoping she was honest).
So I had just paid $950.00 for an $800.00 cat and the only way I could get the cat was to have it shipped to me for $600.00 more.

So we clearly see we were taken, and I was sure that this cat was never in Janine Sherman’s possession. Janine Sherman would never accept a secure, typical means of payment.

We "needed to act fast" before someone else bought the cat.

Janine Sherman would call me all hours of the day and night in her Jamaican accent and I don’t really know what she wanted, except to tell me if her son, who had gotten hold of her cell phone, ever called me that I needed to just hang up and block his number.

I felt like I was in a bad spy movie. This is when I had just had it. This woman, Janine Sherman, is a master scammer.

ON Facebook I saw a man holding an identical cat to the one I paid for and never got. My heart is truly broken.

I had seen her Majestic Maine Coon is on your list of disreputable breeders. I wish I had only seen it earlier!

No reputable breeder that provides quality food, supplements, genetic testing, etc would be selling their kittens for anywhere near that price. Their website doesn't show where they are located. The transaction met ALL the criteria for a scam.

Gave a Ft Lauderdale number and said she was nearby, gave her brother's PayPal info as her was recently hacked and they work together, wouldn't answer questions about vet used, etc.

Didn't send any money to her but it seemed off, found this page and saved myself heartache and legal fees.

Sends pics and videos of obvious show cats or kittens. The person will find out where you live and then coincidentally be jussssssst far enough away that you can probably get there.

Then they want a deposit ("refundable") and want Zelle or Apple Pay. They won’t FaceTime. They will stand you a bogus address if you push hard enough for a location.

I reported thus person to FBI, FTC, online scammers and a bunch of other places along with the Zelle and Apple Pay numbers and names they gave me. Then they tried to Facebook messenger call me and told me to stop the "black mail" [sic].

I have screenshots of ALL of this persons posts (going back a couple of years on various sites) and reports others have posted and all messages to me.

Unfortunately they got me, they seemed legit and sent me pictures and videos of the kitten. they asked for a $400 deposit fee and a $350 vet fee&delivery.

By the time i sent the $350 i realized i had been scammed. nothing was adding up, and when i asked for proof of the kitten at the vets office they made excuses and lies.

I confronted them of scamming and they denied up until they blocked me. Always trust your instincts. I reported to the fbi page through zelle(i’m sure they won’t do anything about it)

They were listed as "Maine coon cats and kittens for adoption/rehoming" on facebook.

I normally wouldn’t have fell for these types of traps but everyone was excited and wishful thinking, if it seems to good to be true it 100% is.

Thankfully i was able to get my $350 back through my bank/zelle but i am out $400. Please be careful.

They got me. They have at least two Zelle accounts. One under Sophia kardonski and another under Kyle serage.

They do not have any cats. They scam you out of your money and run. They ask for a deposit.

If it’s under $1000 dollars Zelle doesn’t flag it. So they ask for it in smaller increments. I was attempting to buy two Maine Coons from them. I didn’t listen to them and attempted to send over large amount. It got flagged as fraud.

I looked further into to them and found this site. Unfortunately I’m out at least $450 for the deposit.

Once I asked for a video chat before clearing the $1000 they ghosted me. Good thing I have some contacts in the FBI. They will be listed as a cyber criminal.

Hopefully they will catch them. I don’t like people like this. My kids were excited. I learned my lesson. If it’s too good to be true. Then it is.

We didn’t want to wait 6 month to a year for a Maine Coon. But it looks like that is what it will take.

She told me she was in Albany, NY ... assuming because she saw my state through Facebook. So if anyone has seen her on Facebook, I would be aware.

She had great back story about her cats, but no one on the inherent can be trusted anymore.

In addition to the scam red flags listed here, there’s some important questions to ask a breeder:

1. Have both parents been genetically tested for conditions that effect Maine Coons? There’s at least 5 conditions that are genetically passed on to offspring that will result in a lot of vet bills and heartache.

2. Have both parents had echocardiograms? Cardiomyopathy is a common affliction in adult Maine Coons.

Bear in mind that not all Maine Coon breeders have done due diligence in assuring the health of the kittens they’re selling. I’ve personally run across this twice in my research for reputable breeders.

She hits quite a few red flags, with pricing, writing style, and then a deposit requirement via pay pal or venmo or other quick run pay service.

She hooks you with pictures on FB and then had to change them up because she already adopted those out. Total scam!!! People like this need to be punished

They have the same pics of kittens on both pages and while I was reading through the kittylandkittens page in their about us it says "at meowoff" instead of "kittylandkittens".

Just wanted to give heads up the site seems pretty legit with location and phone number and email.

OMG, these people are sophisticated in the way they are scamming people. Not only did they get me for $1250.00, we figured out the same scammers are acting like the courier service that is shipping the kittens.

They now are asking for another $1,000 for a crate with air conditioning. Of course I did not send them any money. The scammers actually called us from a Parma, Ohio phone number. I answered and all they said was check your email and hung up ?? Weird, right.

Obviously they did that so the phone call could not be traced . Funny they had an African accent just like someone else commented on. I checked out the pet courier service that contacted us , Fake names .

On their web page it had names and phone number and an address from Oklahoma , but the phone number when called showed up as a Parma, Ohio phone number. When I called the number it was all automated, and to leave a message. So as of today they are persistently sending us messages about how urgent it is that we need to pay.

I'm not going to lie I've been scammed twice. But this time was different. I sctually searched for legit catteries. Blossom coon cattery came up. Beautiful kittens. Only an email address was given info@ blossomscoonscattery.com

First, why did they add s to blossom and coon. I found that odd. They replied fast with questions about me and my family. I added that I had been scammed and that I had questions them.

Location, more pics newbborn to now, delivery options and their vets name. They reassured me allxwas legit and that the carrier had given them coupons for free delivery via plane. Wow cool but I had one more question: were they willing to do a video call them the kitten and me. Response was to be reassured we are legit and very happy to answer questions.

No without that call I cant. I haven't heard anything else. I contacted TICA they said the names Mark Freeman and Mary Helms or anyone with iinitial NB are with that cattery. I'm grateful for their help. again the website was believable

I found a Facebook page with Maine coon kittens for adoption and rehoming. The admin. Is Evelin Charlotte, but she is referred to as he, him his.

I found a beautiful kitten I wanted. I was told it was $399.00 for the kitten, 199.00 for shipping and she would be delivered the next day.

The next day I was told I needed to pay 500.00 for insurance. I paid everything but the insurance and that was stopped due to security issues.

The people kept calling, and I mean about every 5 to minutes wanting me to go get gift cards. I called my bank and they said it was their security service identifying the number I was trying to send it to as a ghosted phone number.

I was contacted by the local police and the FBI. It was all a scam and I was out 550.00 . When the shipper called me again I told him the FBI had contacted me and I didn't want anything more to do with them.

He said my money would be returned. Great way to make a grandma feel stupid and I am still without a companion. Be careful

To everyone who keeps getting scammed most every group on Facebook that is rehoming adoption of a specific breed is run by scammers same as website listed rehome adoption.

Now to avoid scams first do not look for the lowest or highest kitten price low and high can both be a scam, 2nd ask for a live video chat with them and the kittens and the parents if they will not do it, stop - waste no more time move on to the next breeder.

Check TICA and CFA see if they are reg. And have a cattery in the listed area, this has become alot hard as both breed groups are cutting down on information to avoid new scammers stealing information.

But you can always give them a ring and ask like me for example my name is Jennifer ONeill. I own Dark Mark Coons registered as darkmrkcoons.

Call and give the persons name and cattery reg name and have them check, if they kick back yes double check location to make sure someone isn't using their information then ask if they have reg any litters this year.

Those steps alone can help save everyone from losing money from scammers. There are even more ways but those top 3 are clear as day. If they can not pass those 3 heck if they can not video chat with the kitten then clear as day run and run fast.

Buyer beware a cautionary tale. I just got scammed out of 1000.00 from another group I am a member of. Beware Hayley Adams (so called breeder and likely one of many names) and the group is Maine Coon kittens for adoption and rehoming. This literally just happened to me. Looks like I am blocked from the site now as well. My guard was down because I have been a member of the group for a few months and have always seen glowing testimonials about this Hayley. Now in retrospect I am pretty sure all the testimonials are faked. She is scamming real people like myself daily. She got 1000.00 out of me before my alarm bells finally kicked in (should have sooner all the flags were there). I will be making a Police report and giving all the information to my bank today.

So they wont send her out of Vancouver. Breeder is no help, wont speak to us on the phone. Lower cost for rehomed 4year old; immediate shipment; carrier demands $1,590 for "insurance" and now I have a $2k thermal crate. Cat is still at point of origin.

And breeder has no concern for the fact that the cat has been somewhere in holding for 4 days as I look for alternatives. So very disheartening!

Unfortunately, I was one of the people that was scammed in a big way.

The name of the company that I was working with was PURRFECT Maine Coon Kittens. First, they told me they were located in Dallas Texas.

I told him I was in Houston and could drive up and pick up the kitten when they told me they were in Boston Massachusetts. I sent them the money for the cat.

And then after that, they told me that they needed a special cage crate for the kitten that was going to be 100% refundable and that range between $1500 to 2500. It was at that point that I realized that I was being scammed.

I did contact the Better Business Bureau in Massachusetts, and filed a complaint against this company but like so many other people who are looking for Maine coon kittens. I did realize that there are slew of websites that present in the same way. All I can say is be very careful.

And if I were doing this again, I would , make sure that I could see and hold the cat prior to giving any money. It was a huge learning for me, and hopefully will not be repeated by one of you. Good luck.

Hi I really been looking for a Maine coon that caught my attention and felt like mine. I came across Bob on this site. Started emailing back a couple times. I asked where they were located and was just given Oklahoma. I looked and did not see it.

I answered questions they requested and response back after telling me they will feel comfortable letting me adopt the "baby" they quickly jump to being shipped and using a courier to deliver to my home.

Payment was also requested but only using GooglePay. Advised if I don't have to download and connect my bank account then they will send their bank details.

This was odd to me having only 1 pymt form as well as no pymt options even listed on their site. No names had been listed or given.

I emailed back asking why not Paypal to secure my funds since it was a good amount of money … its been over a day now and no response. I had started doing more investigating and seen a post from somone else here that they were a scam.

I decided to go online to look at Maine Coon kittens for sale and this website popped up quickly. The kittens looked adorable as most do.

I was interested in purchasing a kitten. I sent my contact information on one particular kitten. They responded quickly. They wanted additional information. Where I was located, did I have a vet, have I owned a cat, etc. I answer and was quickly qualified for a kitten.

I needed to sign the contract and send a payment right away to hold the kitten. When I tried to call the number on the contract it just beeped busy.

The contract said they were in Kansas. I asked if I could speak to someone in person. Someone finally agreed to call. The number came up as spam. When I answered I could barely hear the guy.

To make a long story short, I signed the contract and went to send the money Zelle and my bank stopped the payment!! The email address came up as spam!!

I got lucky! I am finding many of these types of websites. I never knew.

This group sends out an auto email when you respond asking about information you'd typically get asked by a breeder but then sends an auto reply about how impressed they are with your background and how the kitten you requested is available.

I have done research on many sites and still want to get a kitten from a breeder but in this instance, they sent out a contract and the signature does not match the name or the cash app name.

I decided to do a quick check because my nerves got the best of me and saw their cash app had only existed 1 day and that one of pictures for a 12 week old kitten was 3 months old. All in all, make sure you talk to people on the phone and/or video before doing any business you feel uneasy about.

My experience with breeders thus far before this incident had always been pleasant and happy to discuss the dog/cat in question over the phone or video chat to exchange information and do any Q/A. I reported them through cashapp.

So not sure of her validity. She is a "small home cattery" that would not disclose her address (which I understood because it’s her home) but she wouldn’t even give me a city.

Then she asked me if I wouldn’t Apple pay, would I consider Venmo. I just declined, but the phone she gave me was (470) 519-5798 with the name of Shelly Fox.

Found this website on a google search for Maine coon cats for sale in Alberta. They said they were from Montreal

They contacted me and said the kitten I was interested in was still available. That he was $980 , $800 for the cat $180 for shipping.
We agreed and paid by e-transfer.

Then the shipping company emailed us (probably the same person, Coming2u pet courier service) and said they needed $850 for an electronic thermal crate of which $800 would be refunded upon delivery. We paid that by e-transfer as well. Then they said it was in Vancouver and we needed to pay $1500 for insurance. I never paid that.

Then I contacted the cattery again using a different name and email address and enquired about the same kitten , (that was already supposed to be shipped to me) and the response back was that it was still for sale and the price was $980 ready for shipping overnight.

Hello, my husband very much wants a Maine Coon kitten and I can't tell if the company is a scam or not.

The person contacted me via FB and said they are located in Broadnax, VA. This is legitimate - they are 3 hrs from where I am located.

However today the person keeps using the word okay a lot and will not provide me with a phone number. I get ok hold on. The kitten looks to be about 3 months old and her name is Belle. I was told she would be $300 - $250 for her and $50 to transfer her legal papers.

Is this normal practice? As suggested on your site, I asked for more pictures and the kitten is in different poses on a grey couch. They sent about 4 pictures.

I tried to find them on the BBB, no listing and no website. They said we could come get her as soon as we wanted her.

I don't want to pay anything upfront, especially if this is a scam. Any suggestions? Has anyone heard of this group?

I finally caught on when I received a request to rent or buy an air-conditioned crate for travel at the cost of $1200 - $2600! I said no, and told the scammer I wanted a refund of my $850. Didn't hear from them again. Filed a police report, and I'm now researching to try and find out who is behind these scams so I can slap them with a criminal charge and a big fat lawsuit! Wish me luck!

I’m pretty sure this site Bridget Maine Coon Home is a complete scam!

The pricing is super low at 600, 650, 760, and even 1100 for a pair!

They list TICA but no number, no contact info but an email, and while I immediately knew it was a scam, others may not and the beautiful kittens they show on their website are not quite right….the backgrounds are not the same and you can tell these are not their pics.

I wish there was someway to report them so I’m coming here in hopes that no one is scammed by these scam artists!

It’s sad taking advantage of someone this way and they need to be stopped!

I wanted to warn people about 2 different people who were with the Facebook group Maine Coon kittens for adoption and rehoming.

They are Mary Belle and Sandra Milo.

I had contacted Mary Belle and she had kittens for sale. Lots of pictures of people with kittens thanking her on the group site . Kitten would be $550. I said there were a lot of scammers out there and would like to meet the kitten in person. She was "Very offended" and said she was legitimate and people had stolen cats from her before and she was a woman and had to protect herself.

She claimed she lived in Sedona and we were going to meet at the police station. She wanted me to send her money as a deposit. I said if I liked the kitten I would pay her in cash, she wanted gift cards also. I refused. We were supposed to meet at 5:00 pm, my granddaughter and I waited for 30 minutes. No reply to texts/messages.

Next day she messaged me hello, sorry for late response. She called through messenger app, said she could hear me talking. Very creepy, blocked her and left that group. My granddaughter was so disappointed and upset that someone would try to scam me.

I had also texted with Sandra Milo but she did not respond to me after I asked if we could meet in person, just ghosted me. I want people to be aware these 2 ladies are not legitimate. They still have posts every few days on the group site from other people claiming how great they are.

I had no idea that Maine coon scammers was such a big thing. Its unfortunate since lots of people can’t afford 2000.00 or more for a kitten.

Hi All... it is Feb 2, 2024 and I think I almost gave my money away! I was searching for Maine Coons for sale. MCP Coons cattery came up. mcprograms dot com is their website.

Found a kitten that caught my eye and so sent off an inquiry. Very fast reply that the kitten was available, and asked me for some info about myself and living conditions. I complied with the information.

When they replied, they said they would be happy to re-home their kitten with us. First red flag...re-home? What was also interesting is that they were not sending an official invoice or requesting for me to sign a contract (pretty standard I think - they always want you too spay/neuter).

They then sent me a text message with the email that I was to etransfer to. Name was BENJAMIN NWAOGAZI AWUJA. For whatever reason this made me pause. I searched the name and it did not come up with being associated with cats - unusual given that this cattery has been open for 11yrs.

When I went back to the website and had a really close look, the names of the owners are not listed, nor is there any contact info/location listed.

Other weird thing is that their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram links all go to a Facebook page which is related to Maine Coons but doesn't appear to be theirs. Hmmm.

I then asked for a picture of the kitten taken today, as he has already told me that the kitten likes to sit on his wife's lap when she watches TV. Instead he sends me a picture of the kitten playing (but I think it was a video taken when the original pictures were taken. - same background, etc.). Probably stole the pics and video from an actual breeder.

The website claims that "TICA Certified Outstanding Cattery, 11 consecutive years." So I decided to go to TICA and find them. Not there. I was literally one click away from transferring $1600Cdn.

I sent my last email to the seller stating that they were not on the TICA website and that the kitten would need to find a different home. No reply. No effort to clear up any information. I am usually pretty internet savvy - but this was well set up.

Thank you to the owners of Maine Coon Cat nation for making space for us to share. Some of the tips on this site like the word "re-home" helped me put all the pieces together. Hope this helps someone.

I love Maine Coon cats and I recently seen many ads about adopting Maine Coons near me.

How can we expose these scammers?

The person that messaged me on FB said they do not have a website but they are just a breeder. They said they were in a town close to me so I said I could be there on the weekend to see the kitten.

They asked if I could send them a payment to hold the kitten. I replied I could be there today to see the cat knowing this is a scam. They then told me that they would not be available today since they will be at the hospital all day with their son.

I have been looking for a Maine Coon kitten for some time now and had been following this page. I am so glad I am a bit of a skeptic! I reached out to MAINECOON KITTENS FOR ADOPTION AND REHOMING.

I contacted him through facebook messenger, Asked a few questions, told him what I was looking for and amazingly, he had exactly what I was looking for and the price was $800 FIRST RED FLAG!

He was near the state I live in and when I asked to come see them I never got an address. Then of course he said he needed a reservation and $200 . I am still interested until when I asked about zelle the money I get a phone number and a name of soomeone else. I asked about that, and he said his zelle wasn't working and this was his brothers! NEXT RED FLAG!

I ultimately did not go through this transaction. Because it began to feel like a scam. I can't say for sure but it all feels odd.

When I to the page of the person name and it depicts an older white man, no real profile and the name of the so called brother seemed way off base.

After coming across this site and reading the tips regarding scammers, I am even more convinced this is a scam.

I was looking for a Maine Coon Kitten for a gift for our kids and found this website.

It looked very convincing and the price of the kittens were very good (red flag one). No phone number listed (red flag two) They will only take chime, Zelle or cash app as forms of payment (red flag three).

And they have one fee for transport regardless of where you live and they offer to deliver to your home from airport for no additional charge (red flag four).

The communication emails look automated and I could find no reviews on their Facebook page. They had made up google reviews on the website (red flag five).

I feel like an idiot because I already sent my name and address and phone number, but no money. I don't know what to do next.

Someone needs to turn this in to be investigated farther.

The DMs on Facebook seemed real and when I questioned why the seller was giving me email addresses that didn't work ("temporarily Denied" by PayPal).

She sent me a as a response telling me that I was doing the right thing watching out for myself and making it sound like there was some sort of a glitch and she was going to give me her son's PayPal account to send the funds to.

Of course the biggest mistake I've made was follow her request to send it to "Friends and Family". In doing so I've forfeited any sort of protection from PayPal.

The seller refused to give me an address where I can look at the cat, after multiple requests. Too bad I saw this page after I started suspecting a scam. I feel so bad for other victims. Stay safe everyone.

We saw Maine Coon kitten Leiticia on Go Kitty and began interaction by text with Olga after a phone call from her with very broken English that I could barely understand.

We live in MA. She said she had just moved to Ohio, from Fall River, MA.

There were numerous beautiful photographs of Maine Coon Kittens which were 7 weeks old. It was a tough decision to choose but finally decided on one. I repeatedly asked for a contract, references and a video of the kitten.

No contract but a name and a phone number plus an array of photographs of prize winning ribbons which I later discovered were likely cut and pasted from a valid Olga's Cattery. When I called the reference she gave, the guy hung up.

She sent pictures of the plane that was to deliver the cat from Ohio to our closest airport with several cats in carriers being loaded on a plane.

She said shipping would be $183. and if I wanted a nanny to accompany the cat, it would be $50. extra.

Payment was to be made electronically by non-secure(for me) methods, Chime, Venmo, Apple Pay, PayPal)F &F). She told me to download a cash app and link my credit card to it.

I told her I would be willing to have a certified bank check to be given to the courier service when I met them at the air port and saw the kitten.

I never heard from her again. I wasted a lot of time but fortunately no money.

So I’ve been wanting to get a Maine coon kitten and have been researching online and came upon this website that popped up when I searched for my area.

I came upon their website, and didn’t find much information much described like in this his article. There was no location info where the place was based nor came upon on a simple maps search and Google only pulled their "website."

I noticed a pattern with all their descriptions of the cats that were for sale, they all had the same backgrounds and good with other animals, kids etc. What really made me question and further question is when they advised ONLY method of payments were through Cashapp, Penpal family and friends or Chime.

This was off to me as a legitimate place especially if shipping you would fill out a form with a secure place to input credit card info. The "breeders" would only email and when I stated they didn’t seem legitimate I was told I could come in person although they knew I wasn’t local.

I stated their payment methods were odd for a legitimate company and there’s no phone number for their business nor information for the cattery or even the individuals names that owned the business. I dodged a bullet, and thankful for this article, glad I didn’t make a payment.

Please anyone research research! If something seems off or not right in your gut, changes they aren’t right

Are both identical websites that are FAKE and is a SCAM that will take your money. I lost $750.00

They are both FAKE website with many photos of maine coon kittens for sale. The website has a "form for contact information" whereby they began to text me photos of the kitten I liked.

They even sent me a video of the chosen kitten along with a voice message using my name and that "Your kitten, Brooke is ready to go home to Grace in Florida" Payment via cashapp, venmo, or zelle was requested in the amount of 750.00 as this would include delivery via air carrier.

Once I sent the money and proof of payment, the scam progressed to an email received from a FAKE delivery service requiring an air conditioned cat carrier and I would need to send 1500.00 of which I did NOT send.

This is when they disappeared and all text messages were no longer visible to me on my phone.

I'm out a whole bunch of money, like a whole bunch. Her address said Charleston, SC. Please be aware! She requested $800 for said cat including delivery services.

Then said cat was taken to a courier, I was then given a tracking number by a random phone number. Explaining the delivery process. I would have to send $1000 for insurance for said cat. When cat was delivered, I would be given back the $1000 in cash.

Short while later, was called again, special insurance needed $500 worth of stamping. Then I was called and told they were going to have to put her on a plane to complete the delivery, would need a special carrier. Regardless they wanted $1500 more dollars.

I could not send any more money. My first time being scammed. Lesson learned. The next day was Christmas and the scammer texted me "Merry Christmas."

My husband and I just got married this last July and he knew how much I loved Maine Coons and always wanted one.

So he found a website darkmainecooncattery found an adorable male for $700 and $45 to be delivered to the house. Had to pay through Zelle.

Once payment went through kitten was at the airport in PA. Ready to go ... 20 min later another email sent saying we needed to rent an air condition crate $1580.00.

I called the owner Ferlando Carpenter he said yes I need to pay with Zelle. I then told my husband we are done with this it’s a scam.

The shipping company called me back and asked if I paid the money ... sounded like the same guy and I told him I didn’t pay the money this sounds like a scam ...said he has to talk to his financial dept and hung up ...have not heard anything back since.

Now my husband is out $745 and of course over Christmas! These people are just horrible!!! I’m sorry for anyone to go through this!!!

My husband felt so bad he really wanted this for his wife for our first Christmas as a married couple!! Shame on all these scams!!!!!

I paid for a purebred Maine Coon to be delivered to my door. He was coming from Calgary to Victoria.

Then he proceeded to send me flight info that was from Atlanta for the 12th of Dec 2023 Today is the 15th. He then immediately sent me correct info blaming airline for mistake.

He couldn’t give me name of airline he was using. Also shipping company he used wanted between $800 and $1300. I’d get all of it back other than $50. I had the choice of 3 cages. No matter which one it was still $50 to rent.

That company is called Boothdoor Pets Delivery Service/Logistic Animal Control department. I phoned airport as I was told cat was there awaiting cage rental. Airport gave me airlines numbers there for that particular flight and no cat.

They also said they had never heard of that shipping company. Looked them up on line and they have a 1 out of 100 rating. I phoned the bank to try and cancel and it turns out the cattery has a phone number from Texas. Not even close to Calgary.

He kept repeating himself over and over he sounded like a broken record and try to get me to send money. I kept asking questions and he would revert back to money.

Bank and airport said definitely a scam and he is probably both places.

Everything described in this article describes the transaction that almost took place today.

Thankfully my sister found information here that almost cost me money, heartache, and rage. They would only accept PayPal friends and family, Chime, or Cash App and specified NO CREDIT CARD so no fraud protection. They did not show up on any registered lists.

My last response to them said that this transaction mirrors what others are reporting after they had been scammed and they did not reply. Thanks so much for sharing this info.

So my fiance just tried to get a kitten and was talking through text with someone from a website he found.

He is so excited to get a kitten after one of our mainecoons tragically passed away from a blood clot this year at only 3 years old :(

Anywho, long story short, I figured out it was a scam. It was very hard to convince him. I showed him this site. And then I showed him the site he was going to get the kitten from and another very similar site. I told him to call them. Yup a scam!

No address on the website, another similar website, no phone number to call. This saved him from spending 900 on a fake cat.

Thank you so much for posting this! We got both of our cats (one is no longer) from a legit breeder in NH who is actually posted on this site. I've forwarded the link to your website to him in hopes he can find another kitten.

They indicated they deliver them for an additional fee but could get (2) kittens to me the next day after going through a qualification.

They provided a photo of a TICA certificate used and provided to another purchaser. It reflected one name but when I asked about how to pay, they responded Zelle.

I had started to have my suspicions regarding Love Zone as they stat the home is a Christian family home. What Christian family home names a business Love Zone?

Following the steps list on Maine Coon Cat Nation I figured out the web site was fraud. I asked the contact for their business name, business license # and location.

I was on the Harlequin Haven Paws site. I was looking for Maine Coon kittens. They had many kittens in many colors as you warned about.

The pictures of the "kittens" had so many different backgrounds. I don't think I saw two that were the same.

The kittens were all listed as 13 weeks. I'm sure some were older. They were only asking $650. Thanks to your article, the red flags were glaring.

They are scammers. I also tried to send a deposit via multiple processes and they were declined. They finally asked me to go to Walmart to purchase Itunes gift cards in the amount of the deposit and send a screen shot with the receipt. Beware!!!!

I am looking for mainecoon kitten and came accross Love Zone Mainecoon Cattery. When I sent them an email they were very quick to respond and checked all the boxes when it came to asking about home life of the kitten as well as saying they are registered and come micro-chipped and with all health reports.

One thing I did that might help others as well is I saved the photos from their website (which was created 2023) and reverse searched the images.

Even though the Dreda website is down, the exact images still show as being posted on their website before. They also have a very large variety of colours and do not show the parents photos on the website.

I have noticed that if a website lists several different colours and shades all available at once, that seems to be a great indicator.

Most breeders I've checked out have really specific colours available. The scammy ones have waaaay too much variety and seem to have very few that look alike.

Right now there is a site called love mainecooncattery that is my instincts twitching. The big give away? Why is that one kitten in a picture with Christmas decorations in it? Thought I'd share. Thanks for the article. Vivian

I was looking to buy my wife a Maine Coon kitten for her birthday. She lost her last cat at 18 years old to cancer and is heartbroken. I contacted three of the breeders I found.

Darkpawsmainecoonkittens.com had several kittens for sale at a fantastic price. $700 including many things. Everyone else was sold out and were way higher priced.

I had no idea these scams existed and was excited to get the kitten for my wife's birthday. We were going shopping and I was to get the kitten in two days so I showed her the cute kitten I was going to buy for her. She was so happy she was crying.

Then I got a text from one of the breeders I contacted. Luxekittens.com. I informed her that I found one and thanked her for the reply. Thankfully she warned me. She said to please beware of scammers.

If the kitten was under $1000 it was for sure a scam. She stated that no quality breeder sold kittens for less than $2000.

I didn't believe her and continued until they wanted PayPal money sent friends and family. That offers no protection. After some research saved my $700.

Gizmo Coon Cattery (https://mainecooncatforsale.net/) Name of "owner" is Gianna Avery.

They look legit at first. They're claiming they're having this huge "Black Friday" sale: their cats are up to 70% off (some as low as $300 to $450) with a $250 shipping fee. She claims the cats are champion blood line and registered.

When I first chatted with them on their chat app, they first stated they were from Maryland. A day or so later I asked for location again and they said Wisconsin (same as listed on the site). That was my first red flag.

There is no information given for who the parent cats are. When I asked she sent me an email with photos that looked different from the quality photos posted of the kittens for sale.

When I asked if they are registered with TICA/CFA, she said they applied a few months ago but were not "approved yet".

So then I asked for a video chat several times- explained I wanted to meet them before making a purchase. Ignored my chats completely and would not respond.

Really thankful I found this article before purchasing. My husband and I would have lost money to them.

I came very close to being scammed… when the person got agressive about making a deposit very quickly via ApplePay (which has no recourse after fraud!!!), I searched around and found your website and these warnings.

When I then requested a video chat and more info, the "breeder" got very UGLY and insulting and went ghost. Scary! I almost fell for it. Plus I’m sad because we so want to adopt a Maine Coon!

So the wife and I thought we were purchasing a Maine coon kitten through a reputable breeder (meganmainecoonhome.com). $650 plus $150 for shipping was advertised which seemed like a good deal for this type of cat breed.

We fell in love with one of the available Kitten. After the money was sent & a bill of sale signed the kitten was to supposedly be shipped by air and handled by BRT Consegne.

I received a link along with a tracking number to track the shipment that seemed like everything was good to go and the kitten would be shipping out and delivered to us no problems.

The following day we are full of excitement looking forward to having a new furry little member to the family. Slowly things began turning into a seriously disappointing experience.

We received an email from the shipping agency saying we needed to rent an air conditioned crate for $1,500 but told was (98% refundable).

Of course being concerned for the kitten we agree to send the funds using cash app which should have thrown up a Red Flag but we were fools and again concerned for the health and comfort of the kitten.

A payment was quickly sent using cash app to BRT Consegne and quickly was told to cancel the payment and send it to $DutchesDavis89 this of course raised a Red Flag but was told by whomever I was emailing back & forth with at Megan Main Coon Home website this was normal and they ship Kittens out all the time with no issues.

So I ignored the Red Flag and sent the money for the crate to the DutchesDavis person.

Time goes on and we continue to check the BRT tracker with no update. Eventually it gets later in the day and an email from BRT Consegne telling me more money was needed for a USDA-APHIS certificate which was for, $2,200 but again was told this was now (99% refundable) this had to be paid before the kitten would be permitted to travel.

Again we are being told by MeganMaineCoon this was normal and would assure me that everything was fine. At this time we began to become very suspicious so asked for proof the kitten was with the shipping agency could have sent a picture of the Kitten in the crate waiting to fly but of emails went un answered.

When I finally did get a reply I was told "they could not provide any proof or a photo because the kitten was in quarantine? " I refused to pay anymore money, where I was then told the kitten was holding at their facility with charges accruing to me and a possible lawsuit.

I happen to be looking up pet scams where I discovered others on the BBB website that were talking about exactly what I was currently going through. I wish I would have seen these earlier before we gave and lost the money we did.

My only hope is that others happen across this website and see the many stories of people being scammed by these people.

Not only does it make you mad to lose money to these kinds of criminals but you get your heart set on the kittens only to have it broken because of petty thieves.

This is most definitely a scam and I am positive if I would have paid the $2200 for the certificate there would have been another email from BRT Consegne requesting more money for something else or they would have just went dark and no more contact with no kitten being delivered.

I have found several bogus websites that look to be run by the same people with the same pictures of available kittens just different names. I am sure there is more websites out there but please do not fall for the same scam I did.

Take your time & do your research. There is no way of telling if the people I was dealing with were in actually in North Carolina but this is supposedly where the business is based od the bogus Bill of Sale I have.

But there is a Megan/ Dezerhea Mcgee & someone that use DutchesDavis.

Total price for the cat was $480 including TICA certification. After I said to her that I don't send money by PayPal or Zelle she said that the cat was not guaranteed and I never heard from her again.

I wanted a Maine Coon kitten. Saw all the beautiful pictures of kittens. Decided to contact a few.

Finally decided on one I thought was legitimate. She sounded so sweet and trustworthy.

I sent $600 through Zelle. Then the delivery company got in touch with me and said they used a special carrier and it was $200 to rent. Sent that next there was insurance $100, sent that.

Got a message the car broke down and they needed money for the repair. We had a back and forth. I ended up reporting to the FBI ( waste of my time)

The local police told me there had to be an end to conversation before they could do anything so I said I was cancelling my order and wanted my money back. Nothing. I saw the persons name again and put on a post she scammed me.

Another one sounded genuine and I asked for the veterinarian name. When I contacted the veterinarian they said they never heard of the company.

There are so many scams on Facebook with Maine Coons you have to be very careful. A couple wouldn't give me the name of their veterinarian. Several of the pictures were stock images.

I would say NEVER buy a kitten on Facebook. Apparently Facebook doesn't monitor the scams.

I am beyond sick to my stomach. I was scammed two years ago. I thought I had learned my lesson. I guess not. I was taken again this morning. What is wrong with people.

I don’t think I will ever be able to trust someone again. I have screenshots and a couple names to watch for but I’m sure they change names.

After I wouldn’t send more money this morning, everything was gone. Facebook, messenger, everything. 38 year veteran, I should have known better. Be very careful.

Today i was supposed to meet Cynthia Miles at a location halfway between Dallas and San Antonio so i could get a black mal madina coon.

About 10 minutes from that location, i tried to contact her. She had removed herself from Facebook and i could not locate her using any method. I didn't try to China t her before leaving home bc i thought I'd wait until i was nearly there. I should have done that. I lost $500.

I communicated with her for a week on Facebook. Her profile had many photos of her, her cats and her family. At one point i did call her a scam.

She said she was a traveling nurse. So beware of a woman with BIG lips and dark hair on facebook who is selling MCs. She probably won't be using the name Cynthia Miles any more or saying she lives in Dallas. SHE IS A SCAM AND A VERY GOOD ONE!!!!

However, the email given Ebakow2@gmail.com, name Julius Ebako, did not pop up. Instead, the name EbakoWillSmith. The website is from 2023. Be wary. Again, I offered to meet them in Charlotte, apparently where they are located, but they would not.

SCAM! I lost around 1,600$ to them. They kept asking for different things in regards to the kitten such as paying for cleaning services, an electric crate, papers, and more. They said certain things would be the last payment and then kept adding more money on top of that. I lost so much in such a short period of time and and the need to fill a hole in my heart after losing a previous cat just got worse.

I have a few scam sites/groups to share--they sound like iterations of many of the ones that have been described below, but threads like these are SO helpful for this exact reason. When scammers are caught, they'll often just reuse the same content under different names. Being able to share these keeps us safe!

PURITY FURRY CATS CATTERY (purityfurrycatscattery.com)
Has literally some of the same prices, cat names, and descriptions as the site for Country Paws Maine Coons (countrypawsmainecoons.com), which has been mentioned already below. Also does not list a specific name or location, as this post warns scam sites will do.

SANDY LYNN CROWDS/SANDY LYNN CROSS, admin for a facebook group called Maine Coons in Need of New Homes
This group has also been mentioned before, but the individual has changed their FB profile name since. Almost got got by this one--exchanged several messages, caught on at the last minute. Descriptions of the behavior ("PM me for details!", requests for cash through Zelle or CashApp, etc.) fit this post's descriptions of scammer behavior to a T.

What tips me off on Facebook is looking at the individual's facebook "personalized profile link"--if the profile link doesn't look similar to the profile's displayed name, it's likely a scam. It's helped me spot SO many scammers trying to sell kittens!

Example: the personalized profile link for this "Sandy Lynn Crowds" person this morning was www.facebook.com/paulette.akounou. I just looked at it again, and she is now called SANDY LYNN CROSS and her personalized profile link is www.facebook.com/nin.madjuikem. SCAM!

Has anyone heard of MB, MJ, Majestic Beautiful Main coons, & Christopher Beasley?

I saw the posts for a litter of kittens and there were three left. I’ve been messaging him through MB Maine coons. He says he’s in Virginia and the kitten I picked out is $1200 not including shipping.

I found the kitten posted on another site of a known scammer. It’s the exact same picture. I’ve also noticed that MB Maine, coons and MJ main coons Facebook pages look exactly the same. The kittens look different in the backgrounds look different, but if you compare the posts, it’s the same fonts and the same verbiage.

He sent me pictures of the parents information on his cattery says he’s registered with TICAA I did ask him to send me pictures of the kittens and he did and then I asked him to send me a picture of the side of the kitten and he sent that as well.

I he also emailed me a copy of the purchasing contract to fill out. love the look of this kitten but I’m hesitant and don’t want to throw away $1200 plus shipping for nonexistent cat. Does anyone know if this is a Valid cattery or somebody posing as him ?

Country Paws. Husband found a couple of kittens for 550.00 each. Had some good statements, looked at the backgrounds on the pictures, they all made sense, tried to do reverse image lookup, wasn’t super successful. Sent them a couple of emails.

Explicitly stated not willing to fly and wanted to drive, finally was able to get a location from them but despite two emails and scouring the website, had zero idea of their name. They sent back a super sketchy copy/paste type email completely disregarding anything or statements I made.

At the end of it, I didn’t have warm fuzzy feelings for them and while I’m not 100% certain of a scam, it had all of the earmarks of the "I’m your long lost cousin from overseas and will give you 500,000 dollars in exchange for 100.00 in target gift cards" type format.

Then they threatened legal action when we weren’t willing to pay. We have reported them to law enforcement as well.

Please do not trust their website! The kitten we were getting was listed as Mowgli and now the website has changed to list them as Arthur. Once again do not trust them!

I got scammed yesterday by this cattery for $500.00. The name he goes by is Christopher Beasley.

His facebook page MJ- Maine Coon Cattery. Looks very legit he says all the right things. It wasn't until I drove to his "address" to pick up the kitten in Mass. that he started to text me demanding the remaining $1000.00.

Disappointed, I did not want to believe he was a scammer. Of course I did not send the money. Never, Never, give all monies until you see the real live kitten. My bank will cover the 500 I sent to this man for a hold on the kitten. I filed a police report.

I found another "breeder" in Richmond, VA. Her site is SM Georgeous Maine Coon Cattery. These two work together.

She says MJ-Maine Coon Cattery gave her two of his cats. Her site even talks about scammers and how deceitful they are. Here is what she says..."Hello here are some list of Scammers Avoid them and don’t fall into their silly games."

I was believing she was a mom new to this country, with 3 kids trying to make extra income. I felt bad for her because I was not going to buy a kitten from her.

She speaks so highly of the first cattery that scammed me..

I never been scammed by her but I also never gave her the chance to. I went to her website and first thing I noticed is she don’t have any information about her and any of the cats.

Also there are no pictures or info about any previous kittens sold. All her kittens say available, it’s odd cuz you’d think there would be a waiting list and their would be kittens on hold like all the real breeders have.

I was interested in this Bengal kitten named Plato. I reached out to her and asked if she could send me a video of him. She replied back and said she sent me some more pics and some questions to my email.

We exchanged a few messages after that and I asked her again to send me a live video of Plato cuz I wanted to make sure this wasn’t a scam and she never replied back.. hmmm funny how that is!!

So yeah if you’re thinking about buying a kitten from her DONT!!! I wouldn’t trust her!!

Hello, I was looking into adopting a beautiful male Maine Coon from this Tabitha lady, I stopped talking to her for less than a day because I needed more time to make a decision.

When I texted her back she told me that Ray (the kitten) was payed in full by another buyer. I knew it was fishy and had my mother message about Ray asking if he was still available.

She told my mother he was, which means she straight up lied to me. Here are ways to identify scammers. IF THEY DO NOT VIDEO CALL, DO NOT BUY
IF THEY ASK TO PAY WITH THIRD PARTY PAYMENT OPTIONS, DONT BUY (APPLE PAY, ZELLE ETC) YOU SHOULD ONLY PAY WITH DEBIT CARD)

If you pay with your debit/credit card, and you get scammed, your bank will be able to refund you. make sure to keep texts messages, emails paper trails to keep you and your money safe.

I got scammed by "House of Horton Phenomenal Maine Coon Cats" They seemed legitimate, out of Portland Oregon on SW Multnomah Blvd. I got a contract via email and I had a phone number which they never answered.

I figured it out when the "free" shipper started to ask for $1,500 because the weather in Portland was too bad for a regular crate which was going to be free.

I learned what I knew that if things sound too good to be true they usually are I am out $500 but my credit company is looking into it so have all email and correspondence for evidence.

Showed interest for two different kittens online. Filled out request to proceed with more information.

I received two text messages, each claiming they were the "family" breeding/reho-ming (they literally spelled rehoming that way). Each from different states (Virginia and Kansas) but both texts and then follow up emails were identical with a price of $700 which includes free shipping.

I tried to call the text number and it said it was a Google number. I hung up and immediately got a call back from the "husband" of Monica the wife who sent me the first text.

I said I’d think about it and get back. They even sent me a video of the kitten playing.

I asked for another video of them calling her by her name Lucy and said I wanted to see if she responded to the name because I love the name Lucy. I haven’t heard back. Imagine that?! Scammers!

At first things seemed legit, including their website, however, I am hesitant to send them any money as they will only take Zelle, Apple Pay or Chime. It sent up red flags when they wouldn't take PayPal and now they say they will also take a Walmart gift card or CashApp! Obviously, I refuse to do any of those.

These people are total scammers! Website looked real corresponded appropriately until it came to payment.

They wanted Zelle to ngo690@gmail.com. When told it was sent (big mistake!) $750 total they got upset stating they were expecting payment through Target express gift card.

Got a response from Tu & Amadeus saying this is 100% a mistake asking for my Zelle info so they can return my money!

When I questioned them about this they stated they have to change their Zelle account frequently due to "being scammed frequently"

They also were asking for a screenshot of payment. Called them out stating they are probably scammers and they responded that they are "Christians" and they aren't allowed to take money from heart (the spelling they used) working people and they have to set a example for their kids etc.

Overall they were very defensive and confrontational when asked questions. Responses were rude and in no way professional.

Unfortunately my money is in the pockets of these dirtbags or someone associated to them.

The website also somehow disappeared during this time and another website popped up as Mainecooncatforsale totally different cats but basically same advertising.

I asked them to send me a link of the original website and no response. Now it’s back up again.

They also are not registered with TICA or CFA as advertised on their website. I wish I would have known about this website before we got sucked into these horrible scammers!!

Owners Maya Lucie and her husband Tony Robern and radical shipping out of Ohio.

It wasn't till I was supposed to get cat delivery I received a notice that I needed to pay $1000 for safe handling of the kitten by gift card or zilla cash app. Radical shipping said once kitten was delivered I would receive 1000. Back. That's when I figured out this was a scam. Please be careful.

I was looking through the different sites and came upon a testimonial from a lady who recommended this gentleman because she had been so pleased. I fell for it!! Messaged him and that was my downfall. Piked out this beautiful 3 month old kitten. The hook is the pictures!

Bottom line I was scammed out of several thousand dollars. When I finally said enough was enough He said the deal was over because I would not trust him and play by his rules. Removed his phone number from messenger, removed me from group that he administers.

I know I will never get any of the money back but lesson learned. I am going to pursue this with authorities so he will not be able to do this again. In Alabama , with the amount of money involved it is a felony not a misdemeanor.

Thank The Good Lord your page came-up. We are an older couple on a fixed income and 700.00 is more than we can afford to lose. We recently lost our 14 year old cat. We aren't trying to replace him, we just wanted another kitten to love. As they say, "you live and learn."

I believe puremainecoon.com is a SCAM. I was considering purchasing two kittens from them. The person I was emailing with is Emma Mia and she asked me to send $900 deposit for the two kittens. She gave me two yahoo email addresses to use with Zelle and asked me to split the deposit between the two emails and send a screen shot of the receipt. I have used Zelle many times for various things and I know the receiver will receive an email notification immediately from Zelle that they have received funds and from whom so what's the deal about the screen shots, very suspicious. All of our conversations were via email and I wanted to call her before sending any money so after my 3rd request for a phone number she said that I am not a serious buyer and to not contact her again....lol. I am so glad that I did not send any money.

I know someone else commented on this guy.
He comments on every single post of someone wanting a MC kitten, which I found suspicious but I was desperate and messaged him.

I've worked with a number of breeders in my life and it is almost like a two way interview to make sure the kitty and customer are a good fit. This was NOT, he did not answer a single questions I had about the environment, parents, health, Genetics, etc.
He sent me pictures of four kittens, and said they were all 12 weeks old...the first one was like 6 months old and the others between 12-14 weeks.
Anywho, I told him I was interested in Boomer, and right away he asked me to Zelle him money. I asked about a contract and he said he would send it after he received payment. He also asked about location and I told him and he said he was located in Atlanta, GA.

Anywho, I told him to be a better scammer because he was pretty awful and it became super obvious the second he asked for money right away.

If you ever have a gut feeling that something is off, or they are not providing you the answers you are looking for, asking for payment with no contract, being very pushy, and trying to give you a sob story when you reject them... move on. Also, if the cat is only 400 and shipping is 400....something is wrong.

Please if you want a maine coon do your research.

My mom and I have been wanting a Maine Coon kitten for a while so we looked online and saw these people.

They said that they were rehoming kittens. So we sent an interest email to them. They emailed back 2 days later that the kitten was available and just wanted us to answer some questions to see if we were the right home for the kitten, which we answered with questions of our own, as well with the information as required, but they didn’t answer our questions.

They sent several pics and a short video of the kitten. And on that email, they asked for the shipping information and they told us the total was $600, $400 for the kitten, $200 for the shipping, and to be paid in that sum with Zelle.

My mom offered to pay $300 for shipping and $300 for when the kitten arrived, but they just completely avoided the offer and talked about how they were good people and knew that if they didn’t send the kitten, we would sue them, but we didn’t even have their name or phone number or address or anything!

So it just didn’t make any sense. So my mom emailed them back to make sure if it was ok to pay $300 now and $300 later and included about how we didn’t know any of their information like they knew ours.

We haven’t heard from them for 2 days now ever since my mom sent that email. So moral of the story, don’t email these people and just try to find a local breeder instead.

These scammers had a very professional website.

Had multiple kittens, and when we showed interest in a white Maine Coon, they sent us pics and a video of kitten playing.

Said for $600 they would deliver our cat to our front door. There would be no extra fees.
We sent them the money to an address in Charlette NC via Zelle.

After they received the money, I heard from a animal delivery company by email, wanting to make sure the delivery address was correct.

The email came with a yellow warning that this company was suspicious. I told them it was, then they sent me another email saying that the cage the owner supplied wasn't good enough to send animal and I would need to rent a better thermal cage.

They had 3, ranging from $1500 to $850. You would put the entire amount on your credit card, then when cat was delivered, they would refund all money except $50 for cage rental.

I emailed back that owner said I was paid in full, and would pay no more.

An Indian man called to explain, but I told him I didn't trust them and would pay no more. Never heard from "cat owner" or delivery company again.

A relative paid for a kitten from them and it’s supposed to be here on Thursday since it has to be flown but we are starting to think this isn’t legit.

We got the seller/breeder to send more pictures and videos of the kitten we are buying playing with toys and a video with the kitten playing while there’s it’s sibling in the video.

FB page "Maine Coon Cat and Kittens for adoption and rehoming" is a scam.

One of the Admins, Jordon Edickson, told me to PM him, and when I did he asked me which kitty did I want and have I ever owned a cat before.

He said his kittens are all raised in their home with other cats and dogs and kids surrounded by love.

He asked for a $300 deposit by etransfer, asked me to screen shot the confirmation. He asked where I was located and when I said near Vancouver, he said he was at (not in) Victoria and that he could have the kitty delivered by a special delivery service for another $500 but I said no I could pick the kitty up. He said okay.

Then two days later he messaged for another $250 for vet check, shots and registration. That's when I started to get even more suspicious.

I told him I wanted receipts for the vet and the vet record and registration. He said yes but the vet was being slow.

I also asked for the address for pick-up and he said ok he'd get back to me. He didn't until today when he asked for another $200 for kitten food, toys and a crate. I told him I had my own crate. So then he said ok, $150.

I told him no as I had to pay $200 in ferry fees to pick the kitten up. I haven't heard from him since.

Please beware. Thankfully it hasn't gone any further before I got wise but it took too long for me to catch on. I can afford to lose a few bucks but the next victim might not!

They had no real contact info and never mentioned the names except in 2 testimonials.

This group attempted to try and scam me, I spent time in messages asking about their kittens available.

Then it went to making a transaction/ deposit. They were wanting a PayPal to use under a friend/family gift versus it being under the business part which I would not be protected. This was a red flag.

As I was backing out not wanting to continue, no contract, no agreement a conversation in messages and a possible meet up day was discussed. Once I ended the discussion I was hounded by phone calls and then messages with need to pay for the agreement made for the kitten.

Then a receipt to pay through PayPal was sent to me through PayPal as friend/ family was sent to me.

Once I informed there was no legal standing and no binding agreement I received a text message in broken English apologizing for the pushy behavior and asking if can be friends. Odd .. total scam.

Hello, i was trying to purchase a kitten and found a site called puremainecoon.com

Seemed legit, had a website, did reverse imaging on the kittens non found so I was emailing back and forth.

They sent me a video of the kitten. I went ahead and sent them via zelle 450 initial deposit.

The kitten was to be 650 plus 250 delta cargo to get the kitten to me.

I was emailed that the weather was causing delta to make them use a specific crate. I would need to send 350 dollars and i would get back 50%. I smelled a rat!

I started questioning, asking for a phone number and they gave me a nbr.

No one will answer and I just learned they are NOT TICA breeders on the TICA website.. SO BE CAREFUL! everything checked out but i still got taken!! at least it was only 450 could have been MUCH MORE!!

There is another MC website called Maine Coon Kittens for Rehoming with an "admin" calling himself Johnson K Brown.

He says he is selling Maine Coon kittens but insists you IM him to inquire about his location and the price.

I inquired via IM as to his location and the price. He asked back where I was located. I asked if he was a licensed breeder of MC which he said he was yet there is no digital footprint of this person other than a FB page.

When he listed a price which included delivery to my door, I replied back that his price was a bit rich for me which he replied back, well how much could I afford? Red flag number two.

I told him I wasn't comfortable with this transaction and good luck to him. He has now blocked me from his page.

I read with interest on the Maine Coon Nation webpage an article about identifying kitten scammers and this guy fits it to a T.

The claim was they didn't have a good phone to use with a camera. I told them it was a scam, then my phone began to ring. It was the gentleman I apparently had been exchanging these emails with.

When I told him I wasn't comfortable with it he said "f##k you" and hung up the phone.

They constantly pressured payments, would not send a recent video with the cat, would not provide documentation before payment, copy, pasted and omitted parts from their junk emails, gave reasons they would not accept credit card (only Apple Pay and google pay).

The website is just a new Wordpress site and the animal reviews are plagiarized from other sites - they didn’t even try on some of them. Couldn’t find the images in a reverse search but they likely snagged them from instagram.

It sucks cause these websites pop up like weeds and people will ultimately get screwed trying to save some money.

I wish I had found this posting before I got a Maine Coon.

I had found one on the internet. Got an address and I went there. I bought the kitten but I wasn't allowed on the property to go into the house to see the kitten..

I saw her outside in a cat carrier and she was adorable. She didn't look the age she is, so I bought her and took her home.

When I got home, to my dismay she had diarrhea. I called the vet and I was able to get her in 4 days after I got her.

I ran out of funds for further tests to find out what's wrong with her, our family loves her and now I am just trying different foods, to see if the diarrhea will stop. I don't want to give her up.

But I am angry at the person, whom I got the cat from.. This person claims to be a breeder, but I have my doubts. I have been looking for 3 years and now we have one, and unfortunately with health issues.

Only got me for $400 because I refused to send all of the money up front. They agreed to collect the remaining $300 once I received the kitten.

They then demanded the rest because of flight issues and special crate. I researched and the name given to me doesn’t even exist in the state they say they are in. They’ve ghosted me and won’t reply at all. Surprise! No kitten, no refund. Please beware!

I bought a kitten for them and when it came time to fly the kitten to me, they tried to demand more money.

They sent a fake registration certificate. When I asked for a refund they tried to demand more money from me.

The site looked real and they sent more photos of the kitten I was interested in. I thought it was a legitimate business, but it's not. Please beware.

 Maine Coon Kitten scam

We started looking for 2 Maine Coon kittens to buy. I already have a Maine Coon, he’s 12 years old.

My big boy is sick. We’ve been through the process of finding a kitten and it can take a long time.

When I found 2 breeders that had kittens available I was cautious. The pricing on the first one didn’t add up. He was over charging me $2,000.00.

They wouldn’t answer me when I questioned it. We didn’t go through with that purchase. It left me feeling angry. Unsure where to look.

The second one was a bigger scam. I found the same picture of the one kitten on three other breeder sites. When they could ship the kitten for $150.00 with nanny service that was a red flag.

They could ship it next day red flag. They were shipping a cat tree too. All for the low price of 300.00 for both cats from CO to PA.

Little things weren't the same as when I bought my first Maine Coon. I knew enough not to give any money.

But I just want anyone that is going to buy a kitten. Just be careful I do have saved pictures of the kitten. They even sent me pictures. I don’t know who owns this beautiful Maine Coon, he is beautiful.

The same people are trying to resale a kitten from 4 different web pages. G

Hi. I think that all of the cat scammers should be listed on every pet site and publicly shamed.

So whenever a person wants to check into which catteries to look into the list pops up and they get steered to validated catteries instead. Scammers can rot in hell!

Hi, I'm glad you asked! I remember the day this changed. It was unnerving to see that warning. I spent quite some time figuring it out.

Turns out it's a harmless technical issue. Here's what happened: On September 30, a security certificate by Let's Encrypt, one of the largest providers of HTTPS certificates, saw it's root certificate expire.

Certificates tell browsers (Firefox or Safari, for example) to trust that a site is secure.

Usually this is no big deal, as certificates do expire and get replaced. This is what happened with this site.

The problem is the new certificate can't be read by older devices using older operating systems.

As an example, my computer is around 10 years old, and it's been updated as much as it can. It won't take any more updates. It runs great! But, it can't read the certificate either so I get the same warning screen.

Thankfully I have a slightly younger laptop I'm using as a backup. (This is why you were able to come here and ask the question using a different (must be younger) computer.)

Some suggestions on the web include updating your operating system, and/or browser. For those like me, I'm still not sure if there is a fix.

According to TechCrunch, "Devices likely to be affected by the certificate expiry are those that don’t get updated regularly, like embedded systems that are designed not to automatically update or smartphones running years-old software releases. Users running older versions of macOS 2016 and Windows XP (with Service Pack 3) are likely to face issues, along with clients dependent on OpenSSL 1.0.2 or earlier, and older PlayStations that haven’t been upgraded to newer firmware."

I've noticed I can't visit quite a few sites on my old computer anymore, so it seems like many sites were affected, although again, it's only older computers and devices that have a problem. If I learn of a fix, or any updates I'll update everyone. Hope this helps!

For about a month now I have been unable to get into your website. When I click on the link, my anti virus program shows a page that says it is blocked because the security certificate has expired.

Could this be related with the fake ads? I am sending this from a different computer.

I’m the Ron from the first comment. I can’t tell you how happy I am that you are getting the word out.

I’ve been trying to warn as many people as possible.
Your correct, these sites are plentiful and are heartless. I have wanted a kitten for many years but have not because of my existing "herd" (two rescue boys).

Sadly one passed and I felt the time was right to bring in a kitten to bring some joy back into my home. These sites preyed on my ignorance and took me for quite a bit of money, leaving some pretty sad people here.

This I do not want to wish on anyone.
So thank you for bringing this topic up and letting your readers know!!

I've been wanting to buy a Maine Coon kitten and went to the web to find a breeder. Well I got scammed by a bogus dealer who took my money and disappeared. As I have looked into it, there seems to be a lot of sites that follow the same scam. ..

In the last two days I've found a lot of people who have had the same scam pulled on them.
Any help in getting the word out there as a warning would be helpful. I've been in touch with authorities and they suggested I try to get the word out via social media.

Hi. I got taken by one of those scammers in January 2018. I was losing my best Maine Coon friend to Cancer. I couldn't bare the thought of living alone with no cat.

I started searching online for Maine Coons. Very few kittens at that time of year. No breeders in NC had any Kittens. Finally I thought I 'found' one in Wisconsin. A website with beautiful pictures. I emailed back and forth with them. They would only accept payment through Western Union.

Between the kitten, shipping etc. it cost me 1200.00. I couldn't get my money back. There was no kitten, only pictures stolen from the websites of breeders. I later met the breeder that the picture was stolen from. I was ripped off big time because I was so desperate for a kitten and hurting so much over losing my Bella.

I later found a Red classic Tabby male Maine Coon for 900.00 from a Maine Coon breeder in N.C. He is a beautiful, smart boy and I love him so much. His name is King. His picture is below.
