Smitten With This Kitten!!

by Jomena C.
(Perth, West. Australia)

After seeing a photo of a Maine Coon on Google images, I was SOLD. Before I knew it, I was on the hunt for one of my own. My preference, a silver girl!

After scouring the web for breeders in Australia, and coming up short (they are quite a rare breed here so there are not many breeders and every time I found a litter for sale, the kittens were all spoken for.)

I was sure I was never going to find MY kitten. I was heartbroken!
I considered a possible alternative... Nope!!!

I wanted a Maine Coon or I'd go without!

3 weeks ago, my fiancé messaged me with a website.

I clicked on the address and up pops a local Maine Coon breeders page!

I follow the link to the kitten page and there, on the screen were 4 little faces! 2 were watermarked with 'SOLD' but there were 2 that were not!

One, a very cute brown boy with amazing eyes. The other, a stunning little silver black tabby girl! The only girl in the litter.
I grabbed my phone and messaged back; 'Call them. I want her!!'

A few days later, we arrive at the breeders house, are welcomed inside by a lovely man and ushered to a room connected to the main living area.

He opened the door and there in front of me were the same little faces I'd seen on my screen. He bends down and scoops up a pile of silvery fluff and passes it to me! ITS MY GIRL!! Her eyes stole my heart in that very moment!

Unable to take her on the day, I spent a while cuddling and smooching her then reluctantly handed her back to the man.

He placed her on the floor next to her brother and we left the room to view the property and their other Maine Coons (some for breeding/showing and a couple of rescues). It was the first time I had seen a Maine Coon in the flesh! I was mesmerised and in awe! They were more majestic and intoxicating than I could have imagined.

Fast forward to last weekend.
I borrow a carrier from a friend and head off to collect my princess! It was the longest 30km drive of my life! When we eventually get there. I bound out of the car, carrier in hand, forgetting my fiancé and children, and knock on the door!

40 minutes later, we're back in the car, Kitten, paperwork and care-pack in hand. An hour after that, I am opening the door of the carrier waiting for my 'Freyja' to step out into her new home.

In the last week, our lives have been so enriched but this little lady!

My 15 month old son has claimed her as his best mate. She curls up in his lap to watch cartoons while I ready the others for school and work. She gives him a 'kiss' on the cheek every night before he's put to bed and brings him her toys to play with.

Freyja spends a lot of her day at my heels. In the evening, she curls up in the crook of my fiancées arm or across his lap, and watches TV with us. At night she sleeps on my pillow, resting her chin on my hair.

She maybe only be little (for now), but she gives us so much love and affection!

We are simply 'Smitten for this Kitten' and on the lookout for our next Maine Coon!

Looking for Maine Coon
by: Anonymous

Please don't disregard local shelters. With persistence, you can find them there. Madison was our 1st precious sweetheart. We found her at a shelter when she 8wks. Sadly she passed 2 yrs ago. I've been lost ever since. We have rescued other cats. We now have a Manx and DSH that we adore. However; once a Coonie steals your heart, without one it will always be broken. Missing Madison so much still left me looking.
Financially, we could never afford the Maine Coon Breeder cost. So I continued to search on line etc. Problem was, they were always gone "if" someone responded to you.
I was also going to local pet stores and shelters on a regular basis (how our other cats adopted us!)
6 wks ago I made my husband get up early on a Saturday and we were waiting for the doors to open at a local shelter. And there he was! "Mason" was 8 wks and looks like he could be the sibling of your kitten you're smitten with.
So we shortened the female name Madison and our majestic Mason joined our family. My heart will always ache for my girl, but I don't feel lost anymore.
Again, I can stress enough, don't disregard shelters. Good Luck

I would love one.
by: A Maine Coon lover

I am the same as you. I loved the pictures of them but can't find one to buy. I am in South Australia. I would love the details of the breeder you got her from to see if he has any more coming. Thankyou.

My Beautiful Maine Coon
by: Beryl Fall

We have the most beautiful Maine Coon. When we bought her she was named Mollie but we didn't think that was classy for such a beautiful 'girl'. We renamed her Brandy and she comes running the moment she hears her new name. Can't remember what life was like without her. She shares her time and cuddles between me and my husband. She is the most loving cat I have owned (we have had 7 over the years) but would recommend a Maine Coon to anyone looking for a companion.

All three girls are sisters. 2 are black and white and one is solid black Inka, Isa, and Maya have brought me so much joy during a sad time. Congrats
by: Maui the Maine Coon Miracle

I too have a MC story but wasn't looking for another cat.
If just lost my beloved Buffy Lou after having her in my life for over 12 years.. In the same 30 days I had to put my dog grey he to sleep.
I was grieving when my Maine coon found me.
Now I can't imagine having another breed of cat.
I've had many but really love the amazing personality of the MC

Smitten too
by: Anonymous

Your story is our story. My husband was a cat hater when I first met him. He reluctantly agreed to allow a kitten ( after much begging) in his home. After a couple of years, I was begging again for another kitty. (Max had softened him a bit ). My husband saw a news program on Maine Coon Cats. After learning how BIG they get, how "doglike" and intelligent they are, he declared that was the kitty for us. We too scoured the web for Maine Coon breeders only to find that they don't exist near us. 350 miles later, we were picking up our "boy" Samson! He has made his way into my husband's heart and turned him into a cat lover! We're hoping to get another Coony soon...
